The dining room was lovely. It was a fine base to visit nearby Sarlat La Canadia and to see other ancient buildings in the Dordogne area.

Often photos on sites make a place look better than it actually is. Auberge de Castel-Merle is so much better than the photos led me to expect. The garden is beautiful, the building has been redone with upscale and luxurious taste. The amenities are comprehensive such as exercice room, steam room, whirlpool and outdoor pool. The room is spacious with a superbly luxurious bathroom. The garden ground with grown and flower trees, is gorgeous. Breakfast, at extra for us, is top notch with viennoiseries, a variety of French and other types of bread, cold cuts, cheese, juice, expresso coffee and fried eggs. The hosts Thierry and Anne-Marie are solicitous, providing great assistance for places to visit and restaurants to choose for dining out. Top cleanliness. Our experience with this place is 5 stars.
