Edificio Magico is located in Tarrafal da Vila de Sao Nicolau and offers self-catering accommodation. The property is overlooking the beach and feautues a free public parking at a location nearby. The owner Gabriel and his staff was exceptionally helpfull. The hotel is very quiet, close to the center and beach. The breakfast was more then enough. The room was cleaned regularly. Tarrafal is a good place to discover the island. I would stay here an other time, too.

Tarrafal
Located in Tarrafal in the Sao Nicolau region, bed & breakfast Regina features a balcony and mountain views. This beachfront property offers access to a terrace, free private parking and free WiFi. Casa da Regina is a great place to stay. It doesn't serve breakfast, at least in low season, in May, when I came, but there is nothing saying it does, just the place name, maybe at the beginning they did. Admin questions are difficult to solve to it in understandable that they didn'tchange the name. The sea view in front of the window, the sea sound and the breeze are amazing. As it is a bit away from the center it is quite. Regarding some of the remarks I read: yes indeed there are some kitchen utensils missing like the one to open a tuna can, or a wine bottle, but you just need to go downstairs at ask Regina or any family member and they will open it for you, it is a nice way to socialize and no bother for them. You need to remember that there is no ikea, and that maybe in the past the other guests took the utensils with the or broke them and they cannot keep putting stuff that we bake or take with us. On weekends the kiosk in front can become lively with neighbors coming, drinking beer and grill, but it will end way before midnight and if you see bothered with the noise, you just need to ask and they will pay attention. Tourists always complain: or there is not enough music or there is too much...I am amazed with the criticism I read and the lack of kindness and empathy with a country where people are so nice

Okay, so this is a review of the whole island of Sao Nicolau, not just the city Tarrafal: The nature was beautiful! Green valleys, high mountains and hidden beaches. The Monte Gordo National Park is a must see - we could have spent several days walking the different trails there, looking at the scenery and the endemic plants, birds and lizards. The view from the top of the mountain was spectacular, and it was a lovely feeling walking up through the clouds. The trail from Ribeira Brava to Cachaco was beautiful too. We recommend walking it in that direction - it's a fairly steep climb but your knees will thank you for not having to walk down instead of up! There are hardly any tourists on the island, so if you want lots of restaurants and an exciting nightlife this isn't the place to go. And the beaches aren't like on Sal (the only other Capeverdean island we've been to) but rather small and not really looked after (though there are hidden treasures when it comes to beaches - you shouldn't miss Baixa Rocha south of Tarrafal, all white sand and black rocks and turqoise water ...). Also it can be dangerous to go for a swim in some places - the waves are high because of the wind and there can be currents - so make sure you don't swim alone!

The highlight of Edificio Magico is really the people. First of all Edu (the driver that works with the hotel) was just an incredible man and took me on an island tour one day. Definitely plan an itinerary with Edu if you want the most out of your time on Sao Nicolau. Uri was also phenomenally helpful and even showed me around the non-tourist life one night. I would recommend anyone to stay there.
