Schloss Hotel Fernsteinsee with its own castle is set at the foot of the sunny side of the Fernpass, only a few kilometers from the Zugspitze Mountain. The hotel offered access to the Fernsteinsee boats, and the kids liked that they were staying in a castle. The dinner was amazing, too.

Gasthof Salzstadl offers modern rooms and apartments in the historic ambience of the medieval Ehrenberg Castle, right below highline179, the world's longest pedestrian suspension bridge. Peaceful location, great rooms, tons of things to do in the immediate area, and greasy breakfast included. We booked as an overnight stay but truly wished we could have spent more time there. It has the resort feel but extremely peaceful and quiet in the evening.
