The Tierra Del Fuego national park is very scenic. Managed to get good weather. Just outside Ushuaia on the M3 going NE there is a beautiful valley with areas for barbecuing. Didn't manage to go to Antarctica as it was too late in the season, would only really consider returning for that.
Rio Grande is mostly an industrial city in Tierra del Fuego. There are no tourist attractions but they say that fishing is very good. The city is very windy and very cold in winter.
An amazing place. Very expensive. Have your wallet topped up. Close to Tierra del Fuego National Park. Hub for Antartica take offs. Bring very warm clothes. Good day walks. Extremely expensive Maritime museum. As a step up from backpackers we couldn't afford to eat out in this town. Always cooked in house with supermarket food. Great to be here, once in a life time experience.
The penguin rookery tour was great and we went with Piratour. The evening tour with Patagonia to the four islands was breathtaking and all tour guides were knowledgeable. We hiked the glacier and hiked in the Tierra del Fuego. All beautiful. Loved the food at La Chika restaurant. The information center was helpful but it depended on who was helping you. Some were patient and others were not.
A beautiful spot with amazing activities- penguin & sea lion colonies, hiking to a glacier & Tierra del Fuego National Park / & it's the Fin del Mundo!!
Great place to visit. We visited many of the parks including the National park Tierra del Fuego where we hiked along the lake for approximately 5 miles and paddled a boat for over and hour into the bay. we also cruised the Beagle Channel. We also went 4X4 in the Andes north of Ushuaia. The food was excellent. Over all things are expensive in Ushuaia.......I am sure because it is at the end of the world.
Ushuaia is the "end of the World" and this alone is a good reason to reach this interesting city. Besides that you can visit many parks and National parks in the Tierra del Fuego and navigte in the Beagle channel. Nice experience but if you have limited time I would suggest El Calafate "and surroundings" (TDP, El Chalten etc..)
Great town to start a cruise to Antarctica. Close to great trekking in Parque Nacional Tierra del Fuego. Ate at Kalma Resto-Excellent! Don't bother with Bar Ideal-Horrible. Tanta Sara for coffee and breakfast-Good.
Ate at Bodegon Fueguino. Really good. All the restaurants are crowded on the nights before cruise ships leave the port. Traffic is heavy on the main street in the evening. We rented a car to drive through Tierra Del Fuego National Park. It stays light so late in the summer time so you have plenty of time to spend inside the park even if you get there after 6 pm.
Ushuaia
We had a nice stay here and found it to be a comfortable base for exploring Ushuaia and Tierra del Fuego. The kitchen was well equipped for basics and the apartment was comfortable for a multi-day stay. The host was helpful and provided clear instructions for check-in, as well as using the heating system and laundry. He was available if any questions came up. It was very helpful to have a clothes washer and drying rack (although it was high up and required standing on a chair to hang up clothes), as we were hiking everyday.
Ushuaia
This was an 2 bedroom apartment in a quiet neighborhood located behind the owners' home. Breakfast was not included; however, our hostess, Gris, came over 2 mornings while we were there out of our 5 days and brought us a basket full of breakfast goodies. We hired her son, Christian, for a couple of days to take us into the Andes. We spent a day exploring Tierra del Fuego National Park and day two we explored the resorts north of Ushuaia as well as some other interesting sights.
If you consider that there is not much to see or do in Rio Grande it's funny that this hotel exists. It was good for the price we found on booking. We were very happy to have the pool of the hotel on a windy and boring afternoon in Rio Grande with two kids. The pool area is really nice and well maintained. Downstairs is a casino which is also a "different" experience of Tierra del Fuego. The staff is nice in a very Tierra del Fuego way...
I had a great experience in Hotel Austral for three nights. The Staff are super friendly and they arranged for me all the excursions for Beagle Channel and Tierra Del Fuego National Park. The room is spacious, clean and the bed is so comfortable. All what i needed for my stay. The breakfast was good too.
Location and position, Staff, Cleanliness, rooms, everything
They could give us a suite room and it was one of my best stay ever!
What we like most was the location and the facilities. We stayed in one of the bigger rooms which had a kitchenette and 3 beds... very comfortable beds and arrangements seemed that everything looked spacious.
We LOVED this hotel. Such a beautiful lobby view and the comfiest of beds. Super clean with daily housekeeping. A little bit off the main road in comparison to other hotels but it’s only a 10 minute walk downhill so wasn’t a problem at all. A must stay
Warm and cozy hotel, very nice and gentle staff, superb cleaning and great view of the square. Had some issues with credit card and payment method but they handled it very swiftly. I totally recommend it. 10/10
Ask for a room facing the water otherwise you will be stuck looking at a cement wall with no light. This is a bare bones guesthouse. It has what you need but do not expect luxury. The people are all very nice and welcoming and the breakfast is a nice carb overload treat!
Nice views over the town. Friendly staff and clean rooms. Best bed so far!
Really easy to get to via taxi, the accomodation was really nice with a good selection of teas/coffee. The owners were really lovely and allowed me to store my luggage there even after I left
Location was perfect, clean room
The main thing is the location, the hotel is in the entire center of the city near the main avenue that allows you to get around easily and quickly wherever you want to go, plus there are free parking lots nearby where you will always find a place to park the car you rented without any problem. . The hotel is beautiful, with many beautiful details and added to that it is a sustainable hotel. The details and the rooms make you feel like you are in a small cozy mackerel, which takes you to the literal clouds, because the bed was like lying on a cloud embraced with another cloud that was the padding, the bed was a paradise to rest in, which Perfect for when you are hiking all day, getting to take a good shower and rest in a cloud that hugged you. This without forgetting that the attention of the staff from the cleaning person to the manager, they have super attention, kindness and service 10 out of 10, a wonderful team that will make you feel like you are on the best vacation, without a doubt when you visit again. Ushuaia I will stay at this hotel again, I recommend it without a doubt!
Beautiful hotel and room. The view of Lago Fagnano was incredible.
The room was exceptionally clean with a spacious and extremely comfortable bed. The staff were outstanding, the view from the hotel was amazing, with the Beagle Straits and the Chilean Andes right in front and the Argentine mountains surrounding us. Although about 4 kms from the city centre, the location was, to us, ideal. Shuttles 3 times a day were convenient and taxis to and back to the city centre or airport cost only about $4 each way making a car rental unnecessary unless driving out much further is part of the plan during one's stay in Ushuaia. But there are tours that would take care of that. It was quiet and tranquil. Food at their restaurant was good and very decently priced. We loved everything about this boutique hotel, which was real value for money. Like all the boutique hotels in Argentina we stayed in, it didn't come with bedroom slippers (which would have been handy for the tiled floors especially in winter) so pack some if you don't like the feel of cold or hard flooring. And like all the other boutique hotels here, there are no coffee making facilities or ironing boards in the room. We would definitely stay there again when back in Ushuaia.
Staff were really good & helpful when the transportation for our trip didn't show up. Very quiet with very comfortable beds
We really felt at home. Our host, Sr Miguel, is very kind, helpful and has a lot of information to share (historical, geographical), it's a real pleasure to talk to him. Confortable and very clean rooms, good location
