I've been to Stein am Rhein several times, this was my first stay in the the Garni-Hotel Muehletal. We were there for the wonderful Christmas market. The hotel, located right on the edge of the Aldstadt is basic and simple, but that's all I needed for my stay (there is no lift). The room was smallish but very quiet and comfortable with a desk and ample outlets for powering up electronics. It was below freezing outside yet the room was nice and warm. An extra blanket was provided but the duvet ended up being all that I needed. Our host, hardworking Anna, was very accommodating and friendly. Breakfast was super--breads, jogurts, meats, cheeses, juice, hot chocolate, coffee, and cereals. A special touch making things even more festive was a few colorfully wrapped Christmas chocolates at our place each morning that we really appreciated. Next door was a nice Pizzaria, the Rhy Lounge. I visited nine Christmas markets in my two week visit to Switzerland, Stein am Rhein was hands down our favorite small town market with it's beautiful setting and fun medieval emphasis the weekend we were there.

Good location about 20mins drive from the Rhine Falls. It was great for what we needed, travelling in a large group of 8 (4 teenagers). More than enough space and facilities were more than sufficient for what we needed. There was an excellent bakery nearby and in the morning we could walk to the lake and an old church on an islet which was really nice.
Dating back over 800 years, the atmospheric Stiftung Kartause Ittingen is a former Charterhouse monastery located in Warth.

Very friendly and attentive staff, excellent location in the rolling Thurgau hills. The gurgling fountain on the courtyard. Dog-friendly. Most of all, the very tasty breakfast full of local high-quality produce!

Hosts were very friendly and attentive to all needs. Despite being on a main road, the house was quiet inside. Everything was clean and well-kept. Stayed for 2 weeks and really enjoyed it. Would gladly stay again if in the area.
