Beautiful boutique safari lodge. The individual attention and a caring team made us feel very special. Secluded, overlooking paddy fields. Delicious and authentic Sri Lankan food.
Ranil and his team undertook one of the largest study of Sloth Bears so they know a thing or two when it came to the safari. We spent a day ticking off the most wonderful array of wildlife.
We were here as a family and couldn’t be more happy.

This place was really cute. Super location right by the national park entry, really sweet staff and the pool was so good after a hot dusty day on safari.
There was a little confusion when we first arrived, but quickly sorted out, and the young staff were all doing their best.
The food cooked for us at dinner time was delicious and plentiful. The staff were even kind enough to organise a cake for my birthday.
We did a full day safari, organised via the hotel, and it was brilliant. Great price, wonderful driver and we were lucky enough to see our top 3; leopards, elephant and even a sloth bear.

Very beautiful surroundings, great tents with all facilities and a very friendly and helpful staff. The naturalists are very knowledgeable and the safari was amazing with comfortable jeeps.
Friendly and helpful staff, good safari's, good dinner and went above and beyond with the kids.
Lovely tranquil place in the middle of nature. Really allows you to switch off and relax. The hosts are friendly and helpful in making arrangements for activities etc, my full day safari in Wilpattu was just amazing! The home-cooked food is superb.
The location near to the entrance is fantastic if you want to go on safari, if that’s not your thing, there’s no place for you to stay here. The rooms are also very spacious and with a very comfortable bed.
Close to Wilpattu, easy to sort out safari with owner, cooked dinner was traditional and was lovely. Facilities were good.

The food and service at The Backwater's Lodge was exceptional and even though we missed our flight connection they rearranged everything without any issue. I recommend a swim in the river after a day safari!
The lodge is beautiful, amazing food, staff were very helpful with organising the safari and taxi to our next town. The room and ensuite very clean and spacious. Overall excellent stay and good value for money.
The host is a well known bioligist who build a few lodges next to the national park entrance and situated in the rice fields. Do not expect any luxury. The money earned go’s after costs back to nature preservation. GO HERE!!
