The staff was amazing. They were always checking if everything is fine. My wife can’t have any gluten based products so they baked gluten free bread everyday for her and even altered the dinner menu for her! Never been treated better. Also, one evening when it was cold, and while we were having dinner, the housekeeper placed hot-water bottles in our bed so we won’t freeze when going to bed. Lovely!
The view and location were stunning. I consider this the best location I’ve stayed so far in my life. 10/10

The staff were amazing - very helpful. They have a system where staff are notified once you "check in" for breakfast and dinner and they then clean your room and provide a turn down service during this time (genius) so you get back to your room with a very nice surprise.
The Ado safari was acceptable but the Scotia safari was the highlight of the trip - try to get Scott as your guide (he has over 30 years experience and we have never been able to get this close to any of the big 5 before, especially given its baby season in Dec and there are baby animals everywhere). The boma dinner at the end of the Scotia safari is wonderful - great food and you mingle with something like 40 other patrons over dinner from all over the world.
We booked the family room, which was very spacious with very good bathroom amenities.
Breakfast was very good and well catered for. They have some of the best coffee I have had in a while.
Ideal for nature-lovers looking for a self-sufficient getaway, lodges are fully furnished and self-catered. Usually made of wood and surrounded by forests or mountains, lodges can be part of a group or a single unit. More remote than holiday homes, lodges are popular for safari trips.
Beautiful lodge in a perfect setting with amazing facilities including terrace, private garden, brai, hot tub and jetty on the river with our own kayak. There is also a nice communal pool in the grounds. The safari they run is excellent
Sophia and her husband have an amazing place. They were so accommodating and helpful. The cottage was perfect, the bed was comfortable, and the kitchenette had everything we needed. We loved the view, sitting on the terrace, and best steak ever on the outdoor barbecue.
We took the Ndlovu game drive to Addo and Schotia. Our guide Francois was very friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed the day.
The drive to the lodge is not paved, but was easily manageable with a small car
Sophia and Luc were incredible hosts. They’ve done a fantastic job with the family lodge we stayed at. Simple, modern decor with a gorgeous garden and easy access to the river. Couldn’t recommend more.
Sophia is a great host. The breakfast and the safari tour was great. You should definitely add this when you visit Sophia. It is such a peaceful place at the Addo river.
Such a tranquil and beautiful place. The welcome is fantastic and the meals delicious, plentiful and convenient. The quality of linen and towels is excellent. Being able to take a safari with Francois from the property to Addo and a private game reserve was very convenient and was the icing on the cake!
The River Lodge was peaceful, quiet, beautiful, and a wonderful place to spend a couple of days. I am very sad I wasn’t able to spend more time here. I highly recommend staying here if you have the chance!
A Hidden jewel in the Winterhoek mountains. An exciting 4x4 ride with spectacular scenery to get to the lodge.
Everything needed was available.
Beautiful views from the deck. Cozy bar area where kids played board games and we had a braai. Cozy atmosphere all around. Enjoyed the 4x4 route around the mountain. Will definitely go again!
Thank you to the very friendly hosts Sophia & Luc. Feels like you staying in paradise with all the birdlife and cute ,harmless little monkeys jumping from tree to tree with a view of the river in front of you.
Our stay was exceptional. You can order a lovely breakfast from Sophia with freshly baked warm out of the oven best tasting quiches and muffins , filter coffee and freshly squeesed orange juice. She also has frozen dishes available which can be heated up in the airfryer. Will recommend Ndlovu River Lodge whole heartedly.
the location is amazing! you are right into nature and it’s super peaceful. 🌿 we combined our stay with a safari game drive at the addo elephant park (20 minutes drive from the lodge)
