Ideal for nature lovers looking for a self-sufficient getaway, lodges are fully furnished and have kitchen facilities. Usually made of wood and surrounded by forests or mountains, lodges can be part of a group or a single unit. More remote than vacation homes, lodges are popular for safari trips.
Alte Kalkofen has to be one of the best places we have stayed in Namibia. The lodge was just so well designed down to the smallest detail. Re-use of materials makes it such a unique place. The food too was excellent. The Lithops greenhouse is definitely worth a visit. Exceeded all expectations. 100% recommended.
This was an very nice lodge, off the beaten track in an interesting location. The host was exceptionally welcoming and friendly and the staff were extremely helpful. We had dinner and breakfast and the food and service was excellent. The buildings were full of interesting features. W could see game from the verandah.
Our visit to Alte Kalkoefen Lodge was a highlight of our Namibia trip. The owners and staff were incredibly welcoming, making us feel at home from the start. The lodge exceeded our expectations in comfort and cleanliness. Another highlight is definitely the food they serve. Suuuuper delicious!
The genuine friendliness of everyone there was remarkable. A special touch was receiving a jar of their delicious relish at departure, a favorite of ours during the stay.
Alte Kalkoefen Lodge is a quirky establishment. It’s a dream for someone with an interest in geology - different rocks, some of which have been used for making cement. The former cement facility remains in place ….albeit a wreck, but interesting.
The attention to guest service is excellent.
I loved Alte Kalkoefen! The sleeping lodges were beautiful and overlooked the savannah with constant wildlife moving through. The food was also great, I would absolutely recommend signing up for dinner and breakfast while staying here, relaxing at this lodge was a highlight of my trip!
Great lodge with friendly and helpful staff. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The lithopes collection is fascinating. Would definitely recommend this lodge to friends going to Namibia.
What a gem! From the word go it is totally in a different league. Fresh pomegranate juice as welcome drink, a hand written postcard to welcome you, a comfortable room with detail like an umbrella, shoe cleaning box, pool towels, delicious home made cookies, a bright pool, a luscious green garden, an eco friendly lodge and very friendly people, a lithoparium, and the best dinner and breakfast. Everything shows finesse. Make sure not to miss this lodge.
