Janette greeted us warmly on arrival, in slow, lilting Spanish that was easy to understand. The grounds include a yoga shala (that was shared with some curing wood), a fire pit area, a parking area, and a trail to an Ecological reserve with advanced level trails and waterfalls (3,000/pp, open 11-4). There was a shared kitchen with a microwave, hot plate, fridge and kettle. We were successful in scrambling some eggs but the hot plate wasn't strong enough to cook beans. Signage was mediocre, but we found the location with signs and GPS. Just keep going up the windy dirt road, once you turn into the ecolodge. There is something of a view through the trees, of the valley below. The stars were magnificent despite the full moon. The birds entertained us with their calls, we saw toucans and parrots and listened to their songs. We purchased coffee from the farm to take home.
Trogon Lodge is located 0.9 mi from San Gerardo de Dota town center and 5.6 mi from Los Quetzales National Park. It features an extensive garden, a terrace and BBQ facilities.

This place is a gem. At first glance it's a little red shed, but once you enter the landscape unfolds. Lurking on the hillside, the back of the lodge is a glass wall that allows you to overview the jungle and river from out of the bed.
We loved how the owner reforested this former pasture into a little garden of eden. You can take a bath in the river and have breakfast on the balcony with birds all around.
It's on walking distance from the Hummimgbird garden, Cloud Bridge reserve and other places.
The accomodation is located in a remote area. The environment is calm and relaxed - in the middle of nature. But you only have to walk like 5 minutes to get to the main road/bus station, so you can reach destinations like Sendero Los Gigantes or Reserva Cloudbridge fast and easily. The hosts were very nice and welcoming. Everything was tidy.
