The view from the room was amazing! We had a toucan visiting the tree right in front of our door on the morning that we had to leave so that was perfect! The bathroom is partly open so you can shower with this view, which is just wonderful.

Beautifully located with a wonderful view!
The house was comfortable and well ventilated in the hot weather. We saw many Toucans and other birds. Carlos is a very friendly and helpful host! This the perfect place to wind down after hiking (it’s very close to the Drake Bay trail), snorkelling and other tours.

The location was great, right on the coast with crashing waves to listen to at night. It’s close to pristine forest so lots of birds and monkeys. Really good food (similar price to restaurants), wonderful friendly staff.
We had a superior bungalow facing the sea which was very clean and a comfortable bed.
We were collected from the beach below the lodge for the Isla de Caño tour.

Lovely host, clean room and great food. There is a Tapir who sometimes visits the garden (although we didn't see him). The hotel grounds have lovely views of the sea, river and easy access to the forest. The view of the river is particularly lovely, with beautiful birds, morpho butterflies and even a couple of crocs on the other side of the river!
Plenty of wildlife on the property (eg. monkeys, lizards, squirrels) as well as dog and cats. The rooms are sealed and air conditioned so we didn't find any critters in our room!
You can take a (steep) walk through the forest to find some small secluded beaches. You can follow the trail further along for a proper hike, although we didn't manage to do this. And you can borrow kayaks from reception.
There are also lots of tours you can do from the hotel. You will want to visit Corcovado National Park - to get into the park, you need to be booked on to a tour, and they will pick you up by boat from the hotel. We went to San Pedrillo ranger station, which cost $95 each. Sirena station is more expensive, and an extra hour each way on the boat. I'm really glad we chose San Pedrillo because we got to see lots of great wildlife and swam in a waterfall, plus we got snacks+water included and lunch when we returned to Drake Bay.
Another good tour is The Bug Lady. On this tour, a pair of biologists take you on a night tour of the forest and show you cool creatures like Bats, Scorpions, Spiders, Frogs and Snakes. We even saw a Tamandua! This costs $50 per head and takes place on the trail between the hotel and town. So it was a little thrilling to learn that the trail we had walked to get into town, was in fact so full of spooky creatures! The tour starts at Hotel Jinites De Osa, which is about 30mins away (half way along the trail to Drake Bay), then they walk up the trail to Paradise Point hotel, and back.

A true escape from everything. This hotel has the most fantastic location and even a covered seating area so you can look out over the Pacific Ocean even if it's a thunderstorm. The hotel staff couldn't be better - it's family run and they can't do enough for you. English is their least spoken language so we did use Google Translate when sorting out the bill and travelling arrangements, just to be sure that we had the right arrangements in place.
We are vegetarian and found the kitchen staff to be most careful when arranging our meals, coming and checking if we ate eggs and cheese etc and checking that there was no-one with allergies. We thought the food was excellent (there's no menu to choose from) and what we were presented with each mealtime was tasty, varied and balanced. Even our 11 year old ate it - praise indeed!
It's worth noting that there really isn't any hot water in the shower. I don't think anyone would find it a problem though, as it's a refreshing break from the humidity and general heat. The windows are not glass, but mesh, and so there is a fan to keep cool rather than air conditioning. Again, not a problem. Rooms are simply but adequately furnished, with comfortable beds and plenty of space. We loved the hammock on the balcony and the balcony chairs were really comfortable.
It's about 40 steps to the beach from room 16, and I think we were the furthest away. My 11 year old had no problems at all jumping in the waves straight down from the hotel, but worth noting that the calmer recommended place for swimming is 5 mins walk down the beach. The beach was largely deserted, with only other guests on it, and my favourite part of it was watching the whales from the beach seating area with a cocktail in my hand. Look for the spurts of air/water in the air and you'll soon see them 🐳
We loved it here 😍

We had a wonderful time in Drake. Chiba Lodge is brilliant if you are looking for budget accommodation...very basic but clean, comfortable. Our room had AC and the breakfast was delicious...a choice of 6 options. Owner really friendly and helped us to boom trips with Drake Divers which is right next door. Also, the bakery above the accomodation made lovely brioche, bread, cookies etc...Great for taking to the beach.
The personnel is super friendly and hardworking owners who are doing their utmost best to make it your best experience! Very friendly to help you in all kind of things and really really really delicious food in their restaurant. The lodge is very clean, has good beds and a very nice terrace with an amazing view on the bay. I would really recommend this place!
Breakfast was not included, there were 3 options and all very good. Staff were very friendly and helpful - from advising places to eat, to looking after our bags while we went into Corcovado. Lodges are lovely - sitting on the veranda (or swinging in the hammock) was extremely relaxing, looking out over the bay.
Guillermo and the rest of the family were so welcoming and helpful and organised everything we wanted to do. The lodges are simple and rustic but have everything needed. Food was home cooked and very nice. It was a bit of a trek up the hill to the lodges but we got used to it and the staff helped with the bags. Amazing location within the rain forest!
Erikson provided such great service, he stood out from other lodges. He is attentive, warm, and formal, my very first impression of him was that he genuinely wanted to be of service and help any way he can. The food is very good, home-cooked meals, and juices were not watered down like at many restaurants/lodges I've been to in Costa Rica. Lovely family too!
For my SIM card, I got Kolbi, worked well there. Make sure you have a headlamp at night as there are sometimes fer-de-lances (snakes) there.
If you are looking for a quiet and remote location to relax and unwind, this is the place to be!
The lodges are located right at the beach with great ocean view.
The shared kitchen allows you to prepare your own food, while the breakfast will be provided to your liking.
Best part about this stay are the caring hosts, who will make sure that you have a great experience, for example by managing tours to the national park or diving excursions.
A very peaceful location surrounded by the natural environment. The lodges were comfortable with air conditioning and were very clean. The family were lovely and very helpful cooking us lunch and dinner and providing us with transportation whenever we needed it (for a small extra charge). They also were also very helpful organising and booking our boat transfers to and from Drake Bay before we arrived. We would recommend this accommodation to everyone, and would definitely return if we go back to Drake Bay.
