Arrived to very good news that we could move to the Honeymoon suite! We relaxed and absorbed the environment, the owners Trevor and Mandy showed us around the landmark hotel which they have recently renovated. Every room was a winner - we were impressed by their roominess and spanking new layout, Dinner was tender Karoo lamb chops and an fine Merlot. In the morning after an icy dip in the pool, we were treated to a sumptuous breakfast, freshly baked scones with butter, cheese, cream and jam followed by eggs and bacon on Ciabatta. My wife had the eggs benedict. There is a fantastic vibe at breakfast. Staff who know there jobs and management close at hand and overseeing all things smoothly.

I was advised by Paul Goddard that breakfast was between 07h00 and 09h00.
We arranged to come at 07h00 as I was playing golf at 08h30.
Paul got everything confused and when Lynne was heard to complain in the kitchen at 07h10 he challenged me.
Rather confusing as I was paying for the breakfast that was offered.
Unfortunately what was offered to my wife was not what she ordered. The next day we were not asked what we wanted and received scrambled eggs and bacon. I left on the third day without breakfast and instead enjoyed one at a facility in Robertson.

Our Favorite winery was Springfield Estate, beautiful grounds and views of the pond while enjoying wonderful wines. Our GPS worked well and we found our way around the Robertson wine region. Robertson region was a quick two day visit for us, the next time we would give the area more time to explore the region and the many wineries available to visit. We saw, but did not have time for, hiking, biking, horse back riding, Breed River kayaking, and the hot springs. We also visited small sleepy McGregor, 15 minute drive from Robertson, to walk the Main Street as the shops had a store front Sunday open market and goods for sale. Montague was in our route to Robertson, we only visited the main town with a 30 minute drive through, so we did not have time to explore the hot springs or the hiking trails, but as it was surrounded by the mountains, we could see hiking would be enjoyable if you have the time. The tourist office has information on the trails and the time required.

Such a lovely friendly town.
Such a lovely friendly town. I remember when we were trapped there in September 2023 with the flooding. Everyone opened their homes, restaurants, churches etc for people to stay over. Amazing Town. I love it there.

Be prepared to do lots of wine tasting ie Van Loveren, Bon Courage and Four Cousins, to name but a very few. Robertson Wine on the River is a must visit. Most wine estates in one sport alongside the Breede River. You cannot get a better venue for wine tasting. Even boat trips on the river that include wine tasing. You have to visit Roberts at least once in your lfetime. I promise you will go back for more....wine !!!! Also one of the biggest self made mazes and one of the largest and most beautiful succulant gardens in the Southern Hemispere. Both are at a place called Soekershof just outside Robertson on the road to Ashton

Robertson is a beautiful, clean and well managed little town in the wine region of the Western Cape. There are a lot of famous and not so famous wine farms in the region who offer wine tastings. Most have restaurants or offer something to eat.

I really only visited Roberstson to attend a function at De Beuld (magnificent location and restaurant that is a definite must visit!) I was enchanted with the Roberstson countryside and would recommend that you book accommodation on the outskirts of town in the farming and wine producing areas, as opposed to in the town center. It truly is beautiful.
Beautiful cottage with stunning views of the Robertson valley. The unit's indoor fireplace along with the two air conditioners make it perfectly comfortable during cold, winter evenings. Good kitchen facilities. Nice outdoor braai. Beautiful pool - wish we could use it, but it was too cold. Could consider heating options in future to use the pool during winter months.
Prosper is just outside of Robertson and feels like an oasis in a beautiful part of the Cape. Meandering around the farm and feeding the horses was a real treat. Jikkie was a great host and gave us a warm welcome, then left us to fully relax and treat our stay as if it were our own farm. And the cookies were really tasty :)
Every part of this stay was exceptional. We fell in love with the farm, the view, the surroundings, and with Robertson. We are definitely coming back very soon!
