FAQs about hotels in San Francisco

An Icon of Liberalism

Home to one of America’s icons – the Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco is a liberal city where life is very much for the living.

Surrounded by water on 3 sides, the city's spread over steep hills that make for great photo ops. And none better than the zig-zag Lombard Street, seen in many a film. Even more famous are San Fran's iconic trolleys climbing the hills – a little touristy, but still worth a ride.

In the middle of the bay, Alcatraz island is known for the notorious criminals once imprisoned there. Even if you don’t go inside, the views of the bridge and city are unparalleled.

Nowhere is life in San Francisco more laid-back than on the Pacific beaches. Rent a bike and head out there, passing through the huge Golden Gate Park, before returning to sample some fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. Don't miss the clam chowder served in bread bowls! Chinatown also has a great selection of mid-range restaurants.

As you fly into San Francisco Airport, look out for the exclusive homes lining the Bay Area. Whether you want a more independent stay in apartments, luxury San Francisco hotels or cheap hostels, Booking.com has something for everyone. Be careful though – you might just leave your heart here!

We had 3 nights two days in San Francisco.

We had 3 nights two days in San Francisco. We spent one day walking round the city visiting Fisherman's Wharf, Lombard Street, Coit Tower, Union Square, Ghiradelli Square and were going to go on the cable car but the wait was too long. On the Sunday we spent all afternoon on Alcatraz then dinner at Fisherman's Wharf. Before our flight home we did a bay cruise under the Golden Gate Bridge then around the island housing Alcatraz. We both love San Francisco and hope to return.

I loved visiting Golden Gate Park and an excursion to Muir Wood. Alcatraz is a must. I enjoyed Pier 39 and a meal at Fisherman's Wharf. I was disappointed in shopping. But lots of choices of souvenir T-shirts and hoodies.

Fisherman’s orphan is the most popular part of the city for visitors. The sidewalks are terribly littered and dirty. This does not give a good impression at all. In addition, homeless, and or seemingly disturbed people, hang out on the sidewalks. I was accosted and cursed out one morning By a man who was clearly not in his right mind.

The trip to Alcatraz is a must; however, be prepared for a lot of walking on steep inclines. Thankfully there are rest areas at each level incline. The cell audio is very well done with good narration. Be sure to walk around Fisherman's Wharf, there are lots of restaurants.

The city is a mixed-bag these days, as anyone who pays attention to the news knows. Homelessness and drug use are indeed rampant in some areas. Sadly. The city is architecturally stunning, and those sights are still worthy of a visit. Be hyper-aware of your surroundings. Despite this, there are kind, generous people you will meet who make the visit worthwhile.

Fisherman's warf was very tourist but a must do.

Fisherman's warf was very tourist but a must do. Food, hotel, and entertainment was much more expensive than anticipated. Alcatraz tour was a good deal compared to everything else. Nearby Sausolito was very pleasant and able to get there on rental bikes. Homelessness in downtown is very depressing and disturbing. Avoid this area. City overall seemed very dirty as well except in main tourists areas.

Very well located for Union Square, Chinatown, North Beach and Embarcadero areas of San Francisco and we were able to walk to most places easily from this hotel. The staff were friendly, and the quirky rooms were spacious. There was a simple continental breakfast included, which we were satisfied with on one occasion although we did choose to go out for brunch one morning instead. There is a complimentary wine hour in the evening, with snacks, which was a nice touch.

Location fantastic. 5 minute walk to union square. All the staff were friendly and the room was clean if a little dated. We were on the 6th floor. Fridge, microwave and tv in the room. Breakfast is in the basement. Toast, bagels, various cereals and fruit with coffee and orange juice were on offer. We stayed for 3 nights and for what we paid compared to some other hotels it was more than adequate.

sleeping in Union Square allows you to visit many tourist sites on foot. San Francisco is a relatively quiet and peaceful city, and although very much downtown the hotel offers rooms away from traffic's noise. The history behind this premise is honorable and you feel kind of safe.
