We had breakfast included in our room price but needed to leave the hotel quickly to arrive at our next destination. The hotel staff provided us with to go containers, silverware, napkins and offered to help us with packing our breakfast. They went above and beyond expectations. The front desk personnel assisted me with parking information by going outside to talk with my husband and to see the size of my vehicle. Very nice! I liked the parking garage attached to the inside hotel elevators. They modified my room based on my written request for a nice view of the city. It was beautiful!

FAQs about hotels in San Francisco

An Icon of Liberalism

Home to one of America’s icons – the Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco is a liberal city where life is very much for the living.

Surrounded by water on 3 sides, the city's spread over steep hills that make for great photo ops. And none better than the zig-zag Lombard Street, seen in many a film. Even more famous are San Fran's iconic trolleys climbing the hills – a little touristy, but still worth a ride.

In the middle of the bay, Alcatraz island is known for the notorious criminals once imprisoned there. Even if you don’t go inside, the views of the bridge and city are unparalleled.

Nowhere is life in San Francisco more laid-back than on the Pacific beaches. Rent a bike and head out there, passing through the huge Golden Gate Park, before returning to sample some fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. Don't miss the clam chowder served in bread bowls! Chinatown also has a great selection of mid-range restaurants.

As you fly into San Francisco Airport, look out for the exclusive homes lining the Bay Area. Whether you want a more independent stay in apartments, luxury San Francisco hotels or cheap hostels, Booking.com has something for everyone. Be careful though – you might just leave your heart here!

I lived in San Francisco for 3 years many years ago, and though it has changed for the worse, I still love "the city," and visit often. Always be aware of your surroundings when walking, and make sure that nothing valuable is visible in your car wherever you park. This city has a big problem with "smash and grabs." Google this term, and you'll see a map of all reports incidents of thieves smashing car windows (day and night) and stealing whatever you have in your car. On the plus side, San Francisco is still a vibrant city with a diverse and interesting population of people. Favorite places for me are Golden Gate Park, North Beach, Chinatown, Japantown and the various arts venues.

We had a short 3-day stay in San Francisco and enjoyed our time at the Handlery Union Square Hotel. The bed was comfortable. There was a small fridge were we could store some items. Clean room and refreshed every day. We had some benefits at a nearby diner as thanks for being a Handlery guest. The Hotel is on the margins of Union Square, which in itself is safe. A bit of caution needed when going a few streets beyond.

In San Francisco downtown, near Union Square. The stuff was very friendly and helping. Bathroom very clean. Sheets were clean but matress was covered in a certain protection that indicates they had issues with bed bugs (we had no problem with). I don't understand why they don't gjve up at that horrible fitted carpet that is so hard to clean and encourages the existance of bed bugs.
