As an Australian we were not allowed to tour the White House...
As an Australian we were not allowed to tour the White House as our consulate are too lazy to apply for us.
Americans have to apply through their congressman for permission so be aware that you just cannot turn up and request a tour like they do in the movies.!

Located in the city centre, about 10 minutes walk from the White House, so it's a good start for sight-seeing.
Check-out time is very good compared to other hotels and luggage storage is very flexible.

This gorgeous hotel is just 10 minutes walk from The White House! It has beautifully furnished rooms and lounge areas and a fabulous little gift shop in the lobby with local made gifts. There is a bar and a restaurant that serve late into the evening.
The reception staff were really relaxed and attentive.
Perfect location just a short walk from the White House. The room was very clean and the hotel also offers complimentary tea, coffee and water daily. Above all, the staff were fantastic and couldn’t do enough for you - Milen in particular was outstanding!
Good location for the walking experiences to the most interesting places in WDC. White house, Obelisk, museums.
The Hotel is clean, safe and the stall members are polite, correct to inform the gests. Easy to connect o net, it was stable and enough fast.
The structure is perfectly connected to the Smithsonian museums and the White House and it's a few minutes from Georgetown. The apartment was spacious and functional. There are washer and dryer available for guest use at a cost of $2.50 each.
Apartment living next door to the White House. Perfectly located for the Mall, and good restaurants only steps away. Great for early morning walks around the White House when there are few people around.

2nd visit in late November/early December & great time to visit. Winter sunshine & no crowds. Lovely walk from White House to Arlington Cemetery taking in various memorials en route. Similarly Tidal Basin Walk.

Go early.
Go early. You want to be queueing for the Washington Monument at 7AM, tickets available at 8:30, if you get there any later than 8:30 they'll be gone for the day. You can book in advance, but often it has to be a long way in advance. Also things like Ford Theatre and Holocaust Memorial Museum arrive early and queue, and if you want photos of attractions go early. I got a photo outside the White House of just me at 7:45AM, by 10:00AM it was packed and you couldn't get a good whole body whole house photo without hoards of other people, so go early for memorial photos and tickets.
