Must visit Aratiatia Rapids. It's downstream of Lake Taupo, ~16km from the town center. The dam opens three times daily in winter and four times a day in summer, so check these times before going.

You can park at a viewing point 500mtrs up the hill from the main car park which has a 30 minutes max stay. The viewing point has no time limit and there is a cool path down to falls. 15 to 20 mins walk. Of course you will have to walk back to get your car. 10 mins up the road.

On the outskirts of Taupo, this is a very impressive view - lots of water power here. There are great walks around here, from 15 minutes to several hours. The geological history of the area as well as the recent human developments (Maori and European) are really interesting and create a fascinating context.

Plenty of parking. Clean toilets. Well laid out. FREE!! Feeling the bridge vibrate with the power of the river flow is incredible. Watching the jet boats scream up river to the waterfall base is definitely a photo worthy opportunity. Good bike and walking tracks.

It’s only a short walk if you park at the falls do even if in a hurry you can still get to see these falls. They are not spectacular in that they have a long drop but the water colour is beautiful and it’s interesting to see a more horizontal waterfall. The surrounding bush is also lovely.

With a toddler unless they want to play with the leaves/nature it will likely be a quick stop. Very easy path. Suitable for a pushchair. There is also a lookout on the opposite bank with an entrance less than 200m from Huka Falls which gives different photos and is best to see the jet from, if it's out.

Only 5 minutes away from Huka Falls and Taupo Centre's shops and restaurants, the location is fantastic. The staff were friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The accommodation, set in a peaceful and secluded area, provides a magical frosty morning atmosphere, making it highly recommended.
The bed was so comfortable and the shower must have been directly plumbed into Huka falls! Fabulous. A lovely private garden and porch area. A fantastically quiet location, which we appreciated. The top apartment was occupied for part of our stay buy this wasn't an issue what so ever. Loved watching the fantails. The local shopping centre is lovely.
We were upgraded on arrival and allowed to store our luggage in an adjacent room after checkout while we went for a walk along the lake. Reception were so helpful and friendly. The room and facilities were excellent and the natural hot-tub divine after a long hike back from Huka Falls. Amazing place.
Nice place to come after long drive from Auckland -Wellington, with warehouse just across the road was convenient to get supplies needed
With Huka falls only 8 minutes away was good day out ,and also, Huka Honey Hive just down the road,being a beekeeper myself I found it still interesting with all the different bee products available, well worth the visit
I was extremely pleased that when I looked from memory the quoted price was $162 per night.
By the time I came to book the price was $170 per night which I challenged.
On arrival I was told that Huka Falls would honor the original price quoted at $162.
This was very pleasing and I will recommend this venue to others and definitely use in future visits.
