Ugh. If you're into Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks and Burger King on every corner you've found your place. Otherwise, honestly, skip it. There's a lot of history here, obviously, but it was lost in the crowds and the clutter. Sad.

On Dam Square, the Royal Palace exterior looks grotty but inside it was amazing. Pay an entry and be well pleased with what you get to see. The audio device was too soft for me but just follow the signs and look for yourself.

Worth a visit to see the different architecture in the city which then leads onto the large shopping area and department store. We went November and everywhere was starting to display their windows and the streets ready for Christmas, lovely atmosphere.

Do.Not.Give.Money.TO THE PIGEON GUYS.
Do.Not.Give.Money.TO THE PIGEON GUYS.
Pigeons are filthy, the numbers of people we saw covered in pigeons asking their friends to take a picture is, yuck, feeling nauseous just typingg it.
I rephrase it, you can give them money cause they obviously need it but for the love of god don't count "getting assaulted by pigeon" as a Dam square attraction.

Clean, good location and facilities. Very friendly staff. Would recommend this hotel to anyone really nice and affordable. About a 20min walk from Dam Square but it’s a nice walk
First of all, the staff was very friendly and helpful, very sincere. Although it was very cold when I was there, the hostel common areas and rooms were quite warm. The rooms were very clean, the bed and sheets were clean and comfortable. It is very close to Dam square. You can walk to many places. I will recommend this hostess to all my friends going to Amsterdam.
Lovely hotel, very modern and clean. Short walk to the tram. Only a couple of stops to Dam square. Relaxing outdoor area. The free tea, coffee and hot chocolate was a great added extra. Lidil was just across the road. Short walk to lots of shots and restaurants.
The staff are amazing they are really friendly and helpful nothing is to much trouble. The hotel is beautiful and smells really nice everytime you walk in, the rooms are really nice and clean and it had the most comfortable bed iv ever stayed in.
The location is superb it's right on dam square with loads of shops, and eating places . It's only 10 min walk from central station.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and I will certainly be staying there again.
The Location of this hotel is fantastic, its on the corner of Dam Square, few mins walk to all the shopping areas and the Famous red light district
Only 10 min walk to Amsterdam Central train station.
Rooms are spotlessly clean.
A really great hotel, super comfortable beds, very clean, excellent breakfast. Would definitely go back. The staff were also all very friendly towards my five year old son who was super excited by the awesome Xmas decorations. We loved it, and the location was great to get a short tram to Dam square.
Room was spectacular, just under the roof at the very top of the building. Quiet, large enough and fully renovated. Served by a regular elevator yet you should try the tiny stairs at least once on the way down, to understand how such old buildings in Amsterdam were constructed. Hotel location was perfect, just 2 minutes from Dam square and the metro. Kind staff.
The location of the hotel is perfect. A lot of restaurants, bars, super market etc. Five minutes walking from Dam square. Full of life. The staff was very helpful. Breakfast was also good. I would recommend it.

Visit The Nine Streets 'De Negen Straatjes' for unique boutiques with the odd Abercrombie shop. I love the shoes here, try United Nude-pop up shops scattered around right now. I love De Bijenkorf (The Beehive), the department store by Dam Square for its one step ahead, soon to come homewares trends.

If you take a detour from the main shopping strip leading to Dam Square, there are a number of smaller shops for the more particular shopper. My favourite was what looked like a small musical instrument shop, but turned out to be huge. There was also a retro computer game shop that was a little expensive but had an amazing array of consoles and games.

Stay off the beaten track and away from places like Dam Square and the Red Light District. There are plenty of small cafes and restaurants close to the canals. Look for where the local people go to eat and take recommendations from your hotel. Always worth checking out the restaurants in the Internet before you go and always try to book
