Having just spent 3 nights at the Blue Mansion in George Town Penang I am left with mixed feelings.
The Good.
The property is a beautiful heritage mansion set close to the centre of town. The room we had (scholar) was very large. The café near the gate is a decent spot for lunch. The tour is both informative and entertaining.
There is a pool for a spot of downtime away from the crowds.
The Bad
The location is next to a large hawker market which puts on music/karaoke shows every night (we were there Thursday, Friday and Saturday). The music is so loud that it is impossible (even with the provided ear plugs) to get to sleep before they finish. This is supposed to be at 11.30 pm but whilst we were there did not finish till beyond midnight.
We had dinner at Indigo. To my taste the majority of the food was very bland until the lamb and that was served with an incredibly spicy green peppercorn sauce which completely overwhelmed the lamb. I would think there are better options in Penang for dinner
The Ugly
On our last night there was quite a storm. The power went out in our room and a few nearby. This was restored some 15 minutes after it was reported to the front desk.
When the lights came on it was apparent that the building was not water tight and rain had streamed in from the corner dripping through some electrical boxing and pooling on the floor by the bed.
I pointed this out to the first person who arrived. He informed me they were full and so we could not be moved. I said I was unhappy because it was not safe to sleep in the room where the water was going through the electrics. He said he would speak to reception and revert. That was the last I saw of him.
I then went to reception and explained the situation again. It was now close to midnight and we had a car at 5.45am.
The person said he would contact the manager. Eventually he came back to say there was nothing they could do. I repeated I thought it was unsafe.

A very comfortable hotel with friendly, attentive and helpful staff. The pool was a lovely feature and the rooms were in a modern, clean condition. Despite an early check out time, the staff were very helpful in ensuring that I received my deposit back in good time before their reception desk closed for the evening. The robe in the bedroom was also a lovely feature.
Located in the capital city of Penang, Seven Terraces is only within a 5-minute walk to the significant Goddess of Mercy Temple and the popular Penang Peranakan Mansion.

We stayed here at the beginning of our trip to Penang before their grand opening, and it was so amazing we kept extending it! We then came at the end of our trip and extended once again, staying a total of 6 nights!
The apartments were impeccably comfortable, clean and beautifully designed. Very thoughtful of the guest's experience, also providing complimentary amenities every day and equipped with everything you could ever need, even washing and drying machines, as well as a dish washing machine which was all very handy throughout our long stay.
The breakfast was delicious and had a wide variety of choices, which we loved. The team at breakfast was lovely, in particular a senior Indian Malay lady trainee from the waitress team who was very warm and hospitable, we're sad we didn't catch her name.
The concierge luggage helper Ammar, was fantastic and incredibly friendly! He went out of his way and patiently helped us handle a few requests.
The receptionists Kharisma, Adam, Weena and Adriana were outstanding and very kind and assisted us with everything we needed!
We also made friends with the exceptional team from the Bar, Kucina restaurant and Lava Java café downstairs. Mac, the nicest waiter who introduced us to the hotel on the first day! Evan, the pro barista always with a genuine smile and passion to serve guests. Ganish, Fandey, Atira and Sharvin too, they all made our stay memorable.
Lastly, the housekeepers on our floor and the team from the room service were also exceptional and really made us feel well taken care of.

Great location, Gurney Plaza, Gurney Paragon Mall and many hawker stalls within walking distance. Great view of the sea as well. Most tourist attractions and popular food places are around 20mins drive. Overall, it was nice.
I had the Premier Suite with 2 bedrooms. Well equipped. Clean and modern. Rooms are very well maintained, and beds are comfortable. Decent roof top pools and a bar to boot. Public areas such as lobby and room corridors are very well maintaned. Location is great, walking distance to major malls like Gurney Plaza and Paragon. Parking was easy with attached multi level car parks. Front desk staffs look way too serious, even for business hotels, more warmth would have been better.

Staff- friendly and compliment the security guards who did not failed to greet and put a smile when we see him.
We upgraded to a suite and were blown away by the spaciousness. My husband and son really enjoyed the cocktail hour with free flow drinks and canapés.
Breakfast buffet was excellent- wide variety plus high quality! It was busy every morning but we always managed to get a table quickly. Staff were all very professional and pleasant.
Location wise- can’t be beat! Right next to Gurney plaza where there are soooo many stores and eateries to explore! We will stay at G Hotel for sure for our next visit!
Location was great, same row as the 2 malls, Gurney Plaza and Gurney Paragon. And it was clean. Host responded immediately to my requests. Room service was available upon request.
Both my wife and I found the WiFi below par. Very disappointed. Unless we came down to the lobby, one or two of the staff’reaction about the very poor Wifi were either they were not very knowledgeable or fobbing me off to pay a visit to Gurney Plaza (my new I-Phone 15) to find out. That same evening after many attempts I managed to ‘open my online bank account). Our present hotel is 25 floors high and from Day one I cannot fault the WiFi.
