Casa Antonieta is righteously on most top places to stay lists in Mexico and you understand better why after you stay here, because pictures and reviews don't do it justice. Set in an old mansion, the property is lovely designed (if you're a fan of aesthetics and interior design, you will love it!), has big comfy rooms and the nature is invited inside in every corner. There are plants everywhere, up to the top to a beautiful rooftop terrace full of plants and with a nice view.
We liked everything here and we appreciated the little details - every night you can get a free drink upstairs and every afternoon, they serve cookies and water in the lobby. In the room you find restaurants recommendations and things to see, which are quite good. Furthermore, at the reception you can find transfers to all the touristic points of interests around Oaxaca, so they have pretty much everything covered. Even the breakfast is delicious!
This boutique hotel is located in Oaxaca, Mexico and is just 30 metres from the Oaxaca Cathedral. The hotel features traditional Mexican décor, a gourmet restaurant and spacious rooms.

The ambience of the hotel is really friendly and the entry hallway is very charming. To access the hotel you need to find the door which is next to the bakery which also supplies lovely baked goods all day everyday for your consumption. Breakfast is delicious and is a mixture of a continental plus eggs and bacon should you wish. You can make pots of coffee to enjoy on the rooftop terrace which looks out over the hills of Oaxaca. At night these views are spectacular with the lights. Rooms are comfortable, we opted for a cheaper internal room which was absolutely great for our needs. Staff are so friendly and helpful.

Wonderful, exciting, interesting.
Wonderful, exciting, interesting. Shops, buildings, restaurants, history. Be sure to wear the most comfortable shoes you own. Tennis shoes, yes. Flip flops-definitely no. We took a tour of downtown the first day, so we could explore on our own, every day after.

The place is a very good one to visit if you are passing or you are going to stay for long, there are many restaurants and street food too so plenty of food options and prices. You can find a lot of clothing and artisanal stuff. You can find better prices here than in stores or the airport, never buy at airport everything is super expensive there

Beautiful Centro Historico area, of course!
Beautiful Centro Historico area, of course! However, where we stayed, just a few blocks from the Centro (where Juarez meets Hwy. 190), there is a large ravine (barranca) that reeks to high Heaven, just like an open sewer! Our hotel, the Mision Los Angeles, was very nice, except when the breeze from this nearby barranca wafted over the place, and it was truly nauseating.
Oaxaca was recently touted as the “best city in the world” to visit by Travel + Leisure magazine. If they wish to retain this status, the Municipal government had best address these odiferous ravines, muy pronto!

A million nice bars from local dives (karaoke is big here) to high-end cocktail lounges. Lots of mezcalerias and many bars, high to low, have their own house-mezcal. Azcala Street is the main strip for both tourists and where the other night life branches out. The Spanish Colonial architecture is amazingly well preserved/restored. Much like the historic district in CDMX, except in better condition and much, much livelier at night.

Oaxaca City is by far one of my favorite places to visit in Mexico. I have been there 3 times! Wear comfortable shoes since cobblestones are irregular. If you like arts & crafts a visit to the Mercado de dulces y artesanías is a must. I collect tapestries and ceramics. It really pays to visit the neighboring villages. Some of my favorite villages are San Bartolo Coyotepec to buy Cerámica Negra, Teotitlán del Valle for rugs, Santo Tomas Jalieza for guayaberas, belts , bedspreads, and other type of cotton tapestries.
If you like arqueological ruins Mitla is a must! Also Monte Alban.
