Kiyomizu-dera Temple

The Kiyomizu-dera – or Pure Water – Temple is a Kyoto must-see. Pilgrims have been flocking to this sacred site since the 8th century, so the steep path up is lined with souvenir stalls and snack stands. In spring, it looks out over a sea of pink cherry blossom, while autumn provides picture-perfect panoramas of flame-coloured maple trees.

Like anyone will tell you, make sure you go EARLY so you can beat the crowds. I went at about 8 or 9 AM just before a really big tourist crowd came in and I was able to see the temple and walk around fine. It is beautiful and you can get really nice views of the whole city from up there.

If you can visit the temple in June or Autumn, you'll have really great views. Always respect the temple surroundings and be silent. Other than that, you can enjoy a wonderful place made entirely without any nails. Also, you can walk the path next to the temple to get other unique views.

best to wear comfortable shoes as this is a bit of hike. best to approach this place from yazaka area the go thru the park towards ninenzaka and sanenzaka. these two streets have lots of small traditional shops which you can also explore. we had lunch in sannenzaka area and a tea experience is also worth around that place. so many snack area along the way and many visitors wear kimonos. best to visit during autumn or spring season

The temple was completely different in person than I expected. I thought the main deck faced the city, but it actually faces to the side, which makes for a great shot with the city in the background. I loved it!! It was stunning and really fun to walk around. The area to walk around was much bigger than I expected as well.

If staying nearby definitely worth being up there to see Kyoto at night just on closing 6pm. But return again before 7am the next morning as the serenity is amazing. Temples without crowds are the only way to go if it is manageable

The Ryokan was on the door step to the largest Zen Buddhist graveyard in Kyoto and only a 5 minute walk to the Kiyomizu-Dera temple. The bed was really comfortable. The staff (Boyd) was helpful in directing us to a great eatery just around the corner. We ate there both nights because the food quality and cost could not be better. The location was perfect, There are stairs to the bedroom. We had a private garden too!

the house has two rooms (1 with 2 double beds and 1 with tatami). Downstairs toilet, seating area, lounge and kitchen, bathroom. A washing machine is provided. Quite spacious for us. As my mum can't get up the stairs, we have moved one of the mattresses to downstairs for her which worked out well for us. This house near to Kiyomizu-dera temple (30 min walk), we also walked to Inari shine (50 minutes). The host
