Milan is a beautiful city to visit, and I will return.
Milan is a beautiful city to visit, and I will return. The architectural history cannot be explained, you have to see it. Lots of cafes and places to eat and lots of shopping streets from high-end fashion to low-end. It caters to everyone, provided you know where to go. There's always someone providing live entertainment at Duomo Square, the vibe is enjoyable. I would strongly recommend you take some anti-mosquito spray with you if traveling/walking around in the evening. The city does seem to have a problem with mosquitoes! For parking, make sure you only park in blue and white bays, if you're lucky enough to find them. Enjoy!

To be honest, I expected a little more from Milan.
To be honest, I expected a little more from Milan. I have been traveling to Italy for years (mainly central Italy, where I spent almost a year of my life), this time I was in Milan for the first time and I was a bit disappointed. The Duomo and the Vittorio Emanuele II Gallery are impressive, I really liked the Sforza Castle, and the green areas next to Bosco Verticale are an interesting place. In the evening, it is worth having dinner in Naviglio. However, I personally didn't like the atmosphere of this city, I like Rome or Florence much more. I will definitely give him another chance ;)

Great place for a short stay, with lots to see and do.
Great place for a short stay, with lots to see and do. BUT - a lot of places such as art galleries have to be booked well in advance. Try to get a guided tour (good free ones available!), but also spend some time wandering on your own. You can get a decent street map for 2 euros from a kiosk near the Central station, and I found this really helpful. Definitely go on the tour round the Duomo. Read other people's tips before you go, but do your own thing.

If anyone expects the warmth and courtesy extended by the Italians in New York bodegas or restaurants in the USA to be the same in Milan, you will be frustrated! In Milan, they appear to make things more difficult than they need to be for tourists. They are abrupt and tend to cut you off as if they are speaking to their fellow Italians. It does not matter whether you are taking a Trenitalia train or are involved in a tour, they are not particlarly hospitable. The Milanese pride themselves on tourism, but they have no absolute clue about what it is to extend hospitality to tourists, which is terribly disappointing. Italy's true warmth is better experienced the farther you are from Milan, which I must say is overrated. The cities of Florence and other places are magnificent! Tourists recommend that Milan should not be the first city you visit if you plan to visit Italy, but rather the last. Experience the friendlier (touristy) cities first and compare them to Milan.

I had been to Milan once before for a short stay and was not impressed. This time, we stayed longer and dove into the culture, and we really enjoyed it! Favorite places- Sforza Castle, La Scala (saw an opera there and it was amazing!), and The Last Supper painting at Santa Maria delle Grazie (book Last Supper tours far in advance of your stay!). We enjoyed an apertivo along the pleasant canal (Naviglio Grande). Until this trip, we didn't realize Milan had a canal. Milan is a large city, but we used public transportation, which saved us time and excessive walking. The trams and subways are clean, easy to use, and safe. We took a regional train to Varenna at Lake Como, and hopped a ferry to Bellagio. Our excursion to Lake Como was the perfect day trip from Milan.

The mall was nice. The architecture was great.
The mall was nice. The architecture was great.
The outlet mall was great. There were so many great deals.
The cathedral tour was great. I'm still amazed at how big that thing is.
Lake Como - it was very nice. Be sure to plan to spend a full day at least, to get the full effect.
During my stay in Italy I stayed in several hotels but Matilde Boutique Hotel was a standout for me. Rooms are spacious, tastefully decorated, very clean. The location is perfect just around the corner from the Duomo. Staff members were very attentive and helpful.
Breakfast was excellent, there were always many choices, everything was fresh and tasty. The bonus were the views as I could see Galleria Vittorio Emanuele building while eating my breakfast. Next time I am in Milano I will be staying in this exceptional hotel.
beautiful place to stay when you are in Milan. Close to the city centre and in the middle of night life - absolutely in the heart of Naviglio Grande. You get out of the hotel and you walk by the canal and just choose which one bar you will drink in, but when you come back into the hotel, you come to one cosy, historic and calm place with comfort rooms, delicious breakfast and super kind and helpfull staff. i hope we will come back
Nice hotel, well connected to the city centre, however on foot is quite far. Staff were very helpful, lent us a phone charger as ours broke at midnight.... Price quite high for the standard of the hotel, but acceptable compared to other hotels in Milan.
The room was very clean and we had everything we needed. It is located close to Central station so it is very convenient if you need to take the train to travel from Milan. You can also walk to the city centre of Milan from the hotel.
We were happy with this hotel which was very much as expected. Location and parking were good, and the hotel was very good value for a hotel in Milan, although not within reasonable walking distance from the city centre.
