Hotel Grand'Italia, hotel in Padova

Hotel Grand'Italia is right opposite Padua Central Station, a short walk from the historic centre. Built in 1909, it has an attractive Art-Nouveau design. En suite rooms offer free Wi-Fi.

For a traveler like me proximity to the station is important. This hotel is perfectly located. Basically just outside the station. I read comments by other guests who did not like the area / people outside the hotel. Apart from the fact that all station neighbourhoods are busy places with lots of people coming and going, the hotel surroundings are not “strange”. One needs to be alert as always when travelling, but that’s all. The hotel staff are kind and helpful. The hotel common areas and the room were spotlessly clean. Breakfast was excellent. I am not into hot cooked breakfasts, but there were also cooked option (for people who commented on that). The variety of offerings was excellent. The room was of good size (high ceilings, too!!!) and it had all things I needed, including two desks (I needed to do some work), power points, and at least one (I don’t remember if 2) USB ports next to the bed. In short, this was a great stay, and next time I am back in Padua I will definitely book here again, if available.

Book the double time in the evening if you can (Giotto under the Stars); this will give you 40 minutes in the chapel instead of the usual 20 minutes. Even 40 minutes was a bit too short! The Sistine Chapel is more well-known, but I enjoyed my time in the Scrovegni Chapel more.

    It was wonderful!

It was wonderful! I had studied Art History in college and always wanted to see it. It did not disappoint! Painted in 1306 by the Master Giotto and his students. Giotto was the first to give paintings feeling. Yes, they are stiff, but have human emotions. See the angels at Christs death- they are torn up that Jesus is dead. One angel is marking her face with her fingernails! The parting of the lovers, I can feel how much they love each other and how much they will miss eachother. The chapel is set in a QUIET park with modern artwork in the reception building and modern sculpture in the gardens. In the back of the property is a cafe decorated with Italian Maidens- such a serene setting. In order to minimize Jet Lag and improve your health (and your appearance for all those photos you are going to be in)! Heavenly. Plan on visiting again and again.

Heavenly. Plan on visiting again and again. It becomes endlessly a different experience each time. The better prepared you are for viewing the series of frescoes, the more you will appreciate Giotto’s achievement.

The location is excellent - near the Scrovegni chapel, about halfway between the train station and the historic center of Padua. The bed was very comfortable. I loved having a separate laundry room with a washer and dryer.

A good location. This was my first visit to Padua. Made very welcome by Walter and Eva who helped me with booking a visit to the Scrovegni Chapel. Comfortable room, very quiet. Bathroom rather small but adequate and clean. I did not use the spa facilities so cannot comment Solo female traveller. I felt very safe here.

For us, travelling by train/bus, it was a good location equidistant from the central rail/bus station and the city centre. I had worked out beforehand that there was a Spar supermarket within a few hundred metres, which had a great selection of fresh foodstuffs and drinks. The apartment, on the seventh floor of a modern apartment block, was not overlooked and had a direct view of the Scrovegni chapel, the highlight of a trip to Padua.

This is a business hotel without a lot of soul. The room was large--I think it was "superior" or a junior suite, all that was left when we booked late. There was a couch and a desk as well as a coffee table. The bed was fairly comfortable. The bathroom floor seemed to be heated and the towel warmer actually worked. It's a fairly easy walk to the Scrovegni Chapel and museum, the main focus of our visit, and a block away is the first of Padua several breathtaking piazzas--they are really spectacular.

There was parking on the street outside the property & we were given a code to enter the apartment so check-in was very convenient. The facilities were good and we took advantage of the washing machine as this stay was approx. half way into our tour of Northern Italy. The Scrovegni Chapel is about a 20min walk & an extra 5-10mins to get to the train station where you can grab a 20min train to Venice. The botanical garden is practically next door and the picturesque Prato della Valle is about 5 mins walk from the property.

Great breakfast. Very nice rooms with all amenities and very appealing interior. The hotel is located perfectly in the city centre next to the Scrovegni Chapel. Our host took very good care of us and helped us to find our way around the city and to the sights we wanted to visit.
