This 6th-century basilica is home to an awesome array of mosaics. They stand out for their age – over a millennium and a half – but also for their sheer artistry. The three magi march along in leopard-print leggings (yes, really), a little hand pokes out from behind a column in King Theodoric’s palace and Christ sits serenely triumphant, surrounded by angels. Seriously impressive.
