Hotel Akropolis - Museum Hotel, hotel in Taranto

Hotel Akropolis - Museum Hotel is set on the island of the old town of Taranto, a short walk from the train station. It has a terrace with a panoramic sea view.

The room I stayed in was spacious and incredibly comfortable, offering excellent value for money. The breakfast provided was decent, providing a good start to the day. A special mention goes to the gentleman at the reception, who was exceptionally polite and helpful. Despite booking the room at the last minute, he graciously offered us an upgrade, which was a delightful surprise. Overall, this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Taranto.

The national museum in Reggio aside, the Marta houses the best collection of local artifacts in the whole of Apulia / Calabria. The museum takes you from pre-history, via the bronze age and archaic times to the Roman era. There are many interesting finds from the local necropolis, but the museum lacks a true, outstanding masterpiece. Maybe that is why you will probably have the museum all to yourself.
