The corridors and caverns of Petralona Cave are a masterpiece of nature-sculpted stalactites and stalagmites in all shapes and sizes. Discovered by locals in 1959, the cave turned out to have been home to primitive humans, when a mineral-encrusted skull was found. The complex is nowadays open to be explored, while the neighbouring Anthropological Museum displays its many finds, such as ancient tools and animal fossils.
