Staff were very attentive and looked after us well.
The room was very nicely decorated and had all the amenities.
Really clean.
We ate in the restaurant the night before which was lovely.
Breakfast was fab and lots of different options.

The room looked freshly decorated and whilst compact it was very comfortable, with lots of lovely extra touches such as regularly topped up water bottles, hot choc and cookies.
Breakfasts were filling and delicious to set you up for the day.
Staff friendly.
A group of us also enjoyed our pub style lunches too.
Being right in town it was very convenient as well.

Our light lunch at the cathedral was very agreeable.
I wish we'd had time for the adjacent Bishop's Palace and Garden.

Still spectacular.
Still spectacular. As of June 2021 there is scaffolding up most of the cathederal front and the historic clock for renovation of the stonework. I expect that this will be the case for some time so expect not to see the exterior in all of it's glory. However the interior remains spectacular.

The hotel was very clean, and attentive, lovely to have bottled water put in room every day, refil of tea coffee biscuits. Food and drink service excellent. Reception staff lovely. What a lovely view of the wells cathedral.
The hotel is altogether charming and the staff is jovial and attentive. We had a marvelous view of beautiful Wells Cathedral. The food is outstanding—traditional English breakfast served to order and authentic gourmet Italian food in the evening. The hotel is very old and a bit quirky, which is part of its charm. We would definitely stay there again.
The Cathedral room was amazing. The location was perfect. Great for exploring Wells. The magnificent Wells Cathedral was opposite the hotel. Our room looked straight out onto it. Amazing!
The staffs were very friendly and helpful. The location is just next to the Wells Cathedral, which is the best landmark in the town. The size of the room is bigger than we expected. This is a local hotel with very historical building style. Lovely!
This hotel is a little gem and you couldn't get nearer accommodation to the fantastic Wells Cathedral. There is a fantastic range of real ales and ciders and the property was clean and warm The staff were amazingly friendly and they all liked our Dog

All staff in hotel were welcoming. Parking was an issue but made easy with staff assistance.
Easy walk up to market square and stunning Wells Cathedral
A lovely old, historic hotel! Location was perfect for walking to the Bishops Palace, Bishops Close and Wells Cathedral. View from our room was lovely out onto the well in Market Square – we had a Double Room with Four Poster Bed. Due to the history, the floors are quite creaky, but this adds a bit to the charm. Staff were very obliging and found us a table when we had arrived quite late. Breakfast was ok.
The Ancient Gatehouse is in a great location and we were blown away by the superb Italian restaurant which is part of the hotel and the ability to enjoy the food and wine while looking straight across the cathedral green to Wells Cathedral. It was magical. All the staff were really friendly and engaging.
