I went on a school trip when it opened and was the largest single span suspension bridge in the world. It is such a marvel of construction. The upright towers were cast as a continuous cast with a special machine. It is so easy to take a structure like this for granted, but it deserves more attention. A true gem of engineering

Every time I come home the first indication I have that I am nearly there is the sight of the bridge on my left as I come down the motorway. My dad helped build it so I feel extra proud every time I see it.

OK I love bridges and this is iconic.

OK I love bridges and this is iconic. Walking across it in any weather is an adventure in itself but there are surprises as you walk from Yorkshire to North Lincolnshire. Apart from the view up and down the Humber, (my official North/south divide,on the South side is an RSPB location, a tile/clay factory and good walking.
