Check in staff very welcoming, chatty and helpful. Felt like a valued new customer. Had asked regarding luggage storage facilities on making the booking, as we were going to be out and about celebrating a special birthday over two days and on entering the room, we found balloons, a card and a complimentary bottle of wine which was totally unexpected and such a wonderful touch.

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre

Buried deep in the backstreets of the Santa Cruz district, this palace became the blueprint for many a swanky Andalusian pad. The man whose idea it was, the Marquis of Tarifa, came back from a Grand Tour of Europe in the early 16th century with the idea of combining Mudéjar splendour with Renaissance Italian style. The result is the stunning Pilate’s House. Not to be missed.

Did a booked/paid tour there early in the day, and returned to a performance in the evening. The tour had too much sitting and being 'instructed', though interesting. The performance was great! Book well in advance to get a good seat, and a cushion as the seats are just wood. Take woollies. Take a poncho even if seated, as damp air blows about. If standing, have a poncho, raincoat, hoodie and wellies and be prepared to stand for up to 3 hours. Earliest birds can grab the misericord ledge around the edges. (No brollies allowed during the performance.) It tipped down the night we went. Actors stay dry(ish) as the stage has a roof.

What a pleasure to watch a production so closely designed to Shakespeare's own time. We love every moment of being here. I have returned on several occasions from Idaho to watch the faces of my own children as they absorb the experience.
