We only found out about hot alternatives such as poached eggs & porridge to the standard hot buffet breakfast from a guest. This was not highlighted when breakfast explained to us on the first morning giving the impression the hotel did it want u to know.

Nice location , remote, peaceful .Close to the beautiful Rockcliffe beach.
The staff were attentive and polite . The food was good although the main, evening meal, dining room did have the feel of a local tea room . The breakfast room however did have an air of old world elegance .
The first floor apartment was roomy and beautifully decorated with a seaside theme matching the fantastic views from it's living room and bedroom windows. The patio and garden areas to the rear were great for sitting out. There were easy waterside walks to the front along a quiet access road and behind direct access to a woodland walk to Rockcliffe. Two hotels with bars and outdoor seating were just yards away. A bus stop to Dalbeattie was just outside although we used our car (parked to the front) and bikes (parked in the back garden!)
We stayed at Birch tree Hotel for 1 night last year and found it to be an ideal base. So decided to stay for 2 nights this time to explore more of the surrounding areas. We visited Castle Douglas and Kirkcudbright, and walked along the Jubilee Path between Kippford and Rockcliffe.
Staff were friendly and accommodating. Our 2 pillows were too low, and asked for another 2 which were on our bed when we returned later Bar was very pleasant to sit in.
The hotel is in a great location. Close to RSPB Mersehead and Rockcliffe. The staff were fantastic and went above and beyond to deliver the best service. We ate an evening meal and had breakfast there twice. All meals were great.
