Ravenstone Manor, hotel in Keswick

A 5-minute drive from Bassenthwaite Lake, Ravenstone Manor is an 19th-century manor house set in 3 hectares of ground. The property is at the foot of Skiddaw, overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake.

It was totally dog-friendly. Dogs were welcome in the dining room and all social rooms in the hotel. There probably were more dogs in residence than paying guests! The facilities are grand -- very British -- with large, comfortable social rooms, even a nook for jig-saw puzzle enthusiasts. In-house restaurant was very good and the staff were wonderful (except our greeter).

The Derwentwater Walk

This beautiful trail takes in the quiet awesomeness of Derwentwater, the "Queen of the Lakes." Ten miles of well-marked paths loop around its still shores, taking you past age-old forests and rugged fells. For picture-perfect views, head to Friar's Crag and look out over the lake towards the bumpy Cat Bells ridge.

Going with family I wanted a discount self catering option in or close to Keswick and the Derwentwater Hotel did not disappoint. Literally 2 miles from the center. 2 Bed apartment was more than spacious for 4 people with everything we needed for our short stay. And the location was spot on with beautiful grounds to walk around too. Staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough. Prices were reasonable in the restaurant and bar where we spent the evening relaxing.

The hotel and grounds were far more picturesque than we anticipated and it is perfectly situated in Keswick with an easy walk into town and to the start of most walks and Derwentwater. Our room was lovely and although not modern and up to date perfectly reflected the building and its surroundings and everything worked and was clean. The restaurant for breakfast was great and there was more than enough options with a lovely view across the lawn.

Lovely hotel with beautiful views over Derwentwater and Catbells. Friendly, helpful staff and very attentive. Clean and tidy. Comfortable beds. Quiet location and only a few minutes walk into the town and down to the Launch on Derwentwater. Breakfast was lovely and I thought the dining room was professionally set out with the placement of the tables, so that you are not overlooked by other guests. Would definitely recommend and will definitely stay again. It's a 10/10 from me.

I have stayed at The Derwentwater a few times and whilst it is not the fanciest hotel in the area it is generally quite reliable. The location is great, and you can walk down to the lake shore directly from the hotel garden which is lovely for a pre-dinner stroll. The staff are generally helpful and friendly.
