Tastefully modernized to a high standard. Large clean rooms, didn't hear our neighbour's, nice beds, great shower, nice coffee bar for breakfast, dipping pool and restaurant/ bar on the roof with great view of cathedral.

It was right in the centre of town and reasonably priced.

It's an amazing place but some of it is being excavated and I do think the authorities could have done more to explain what is taking place and what sort of information is emerging.
The views over Almeria are wonderful, worth the long climb. I also enjoyed visiting the Aljibes (cave-like cisterns) made by the Moorish builders of the castle with a view to withstanding a siege.
A visit beforehand to the museum in the main square is a very helpful scene-setter.
