I stayed at Hotel Hammerschmiede twice, when I was arriving in and leaving Salzburg. It's a very peaceful location only 15-20 mins driving away from the city center, but it feels like you are deep in the forest. The staff and the owner are very friendly and helpful and we had a great conversation in the evening of my first night. The buildings are on the site of an old toolsmith forge and there are many cool artifacts from hundreds of years ago within the grounds. The dinner menu is limited to 3 or 4 entrees but they are very good. The courtyard is a nice place to spend the evening with a glass of wine. The breakfast is a full spread of organic bread, jam, cheeses, etc.
In a quiet location in the village of Anthering, this family-run 4-star hotel is just 4.3 mi north of Salzburg. It offers free internet access. Free private parking is available on site.
