This hotel has many strengths to recommend it but lacks several key services (more about those later). The location is ideal: just meters away from the main train station and in a spot that yields a lovely view of Stralsund’s soaring church spires. The rooms, gorgeously furnished in woodgrain with rich red fabric, have large windows that admit a glorious amount of light and are comfortably carpeted rather than being floored in industrial tile or cold hardwood — these details contributing to a warm, welcoming feeling. My particular room was commendably equipped with a real shower rather than one of the unfortunate shower/tub combos that are common in German hotels. Breakfast, with a full set of options, is served in an attractive, sunlit room. The staff vary from politely professional to sincerely friendly, and the hotel owners are definitely receptive to guest concerns. I stayed here for five nights and would have rated it 10/10 on those strengths. However, the absence of several critical features (1. No laundry service; 2. No air conditioning; 3. A late breakfast start at 7:00) detracted from the experience, particularly because guests who travel light on luggage rely on hotel laundry to avoid the encumbrance of surplus clothing, and laundry services are so common nowadays — even in budget hotels, let alone at mid-priced properties — that one no longer bothers to confirm this perk in advance.
