Les aigües del voltant de Shark Island són espectaculars, gràcies als coralls tous i durs i a la gran varietat d'espècies marines que hi ha. Aquesta illeta deshabitada es coneix com l'illa del tauró per la seva forma d'aleta dorsal, més que no pas perquè hi hagi molts taurons, tot i que tampoc no és estrany veure algun tauró de puntes negres. Com que els corrents poden ser forts, es recomana als submarinistes experts.
