It’s not my first time visiting Otaru, but Stone and Iron made me wanna visit Otaru again! I was already very excited when I booked this historical stone house. It is more amazing than what I expected! The owner Hiro is a super nice host and excellent chef. We enjoyed so much having our dinner in his lovely stone house. Food is fantastic! We had a good sleep as it’s so quiet. The stone house looks stunning in the snow!

I loved everyone who worked there. Chad and Greg are the best! The kids felt like it was such a great experience. Meeting, eating breakfast, and interacting throughout the day with people from all over the world makes this place special. Because we were there during Christmas it seemed extra wonderful with an amazing meal. I think it was the best meal my vegetarian husband had on our whole trip. Lots of meats and vegetables were cooked up in a fun and festive environment. The warmth we received at Slowlife was unforgettable.

The property is situated 10 km from Lake Mashu and 400 metres from Kawayu Hot Spring. a wonderful and super helpful owner. He was - understandably so - a bit grumpy on our late / late night arrival, but wrote the most beautiful letter next day to express his feelings. 2 private Onsen pools, one in- and one out-doors. Superb and a high potential to get addicted. Every appartment has its own individual art. Just lovely! It is a truely unique place to which we would return every single time, even when only remotely around.
