The Griffin Inn, hotel in Wigan

Located 900 metres from Knowsley Road in Saint Helens, The Griffin Inn features free WiFi access and free private parking.

When we arrived at the Griffin, the satnav took us to the front of the pub. Limited parking spaces. In all honesty, I was concerned that it was a little rough, especially when we were welcomed by vomit at the outside tables at the front entrance. It was a Saturday afternoon, and I am not pretentious about this, it happens, however, first impressions matter. When we walked into the pub we were surprisingly happy. It is a lovely pub with a great atmosphere. It then became apparent there is a back car park and plenty of space for everyone and anyone I loved the back outdoor area. Very nice. Also a playpark for children. Staff were pleasant and accommodating, although rushed off their feet to be fair. The room was on the ground floor which was ideal. We had a key entrance and it was open 24 hours for us late-night party animals. No hassle! Checkout was simple, key in a box, and off you go. If i was to stay in St Helens again, I would definitely choose The Griffin again.

Breakfast was a buffet but very tasty and drinks were made and brought to us. Dinner was superb although a little pricey. Spa facilities were great and room was comfortable.

The public areas were immaculate and felt like a luxury hotel. We upgraded our room and it was lovely and spacious. We had dinner at the hotel, along my with breakfast, and the food was exceptional. We loved having a cooked-to order hot breakfast rather than a buffet.

The hotel is decorated really well. Clean and tidy. Pub downstairs is large and friendly and rooms upstairs are separated by a card access door. Staff were all very nice. Food in the pub was great as was the Guinness.

Excellent location and grounds just off the M6 junction - but not so close for traffic noise. Easy free parking right outside reception entrance. Impressive modern architecture and decor. Very friendly staff and nice welcome. Room size ok and not too far from Reception although suspect some rooms are. Bennetts restaurant served an excellent dinner made with care and attention. Impressively tasty innovative dishes. Highly recommended and good value for a hotel restaurant.

Elegant Victorian mansion with touches of Scottish Hunting Lodge. (Stag’s heads on the walls and lots of tartan!) Huge room, clean, good facilities, comfy bed. Friendly staff. Very good dinner and breakfast. Dog-friendly (our dog even got a sausage for breakfast!) Pleasant grounds with walks down to the reservoir.

Room spacious and comfortable.Complimentary bottled water and bicuits in room, along with tea and coffee making facilities. Breakfast and dinner good.Only downside not very disability friendly, no lift or disabled space in car park, which was always very congested.
