The Spread Eagle Hotel, hotel in Thame

Since the 16th century, The Spread Eagle has hosted historic guests such as King Charles II and the writer Evelyn Waugh. Today it offers a warm welcome, excellent food and free Wi-Fi.

Great location in the interesting small town of Thame. Some rooms( not ours sadly) looked bright and airy with character . The one evening meal we had in our 4 nights was good (sea bass). Parking charges can go towards any evening meals. Front rooms have good views of the main street and across to historic buildings but can be noisier . Breakfast on our last day included fresh fruit and yogurt ( not available the other 3 mornings). Good range of pastries available every day as well as cereals and cooked options . The Spread Eagle has potential to be a great place if service is improved and some minor decor details improved. In a nicer room and with better service, our feedback would have been more positive. We saw Erica on reception at the end of our stay who seemed much more receptive of our issues and apologised.

We loved staying at this welcoming and historic inn. The owner and her team were friendly and helpful and the Full English was fantastic. There's a fabulous log fire in the bar and there are countless beautiful and authentic antiques in the dining room and throughout the property. A classic place to stay with a great team running it.

Breakfast was great, staff and hotel great, nice and comfy. Food in the dinner restaurant was very over priced in my opinion, I have had better quality food for better prices. All in all very satisfied and will return for future business trips.

We came to relax and visit Oxford city. Hotel is 25min drive away from Oxford at very competitive price for its facilities. Comfortable beds, spacious room, good quality toiletries, very good breakfast and high class dinner at the restaurant. We also enjoyed the tennis courts and beautiful views around the hotel - blossoming roses and nicely cut loans. Staff was very welcoming and pleasant too.

Very clean and spacious room with all expected amenities, kettle and good selection of tea and coffee, cooked breakfast was excellent, and dinner (one steak and the seabass), although dessert selection was somewhat sparse, did met our expectation. Good parking facilities. This venue is good to chill out and relax.

Well located for Thame and the M40. We were dining at Le Manoir which is only two miles away, so convenient. We received a warm welcome along with a freshly baked cookie. The hotel is modern, accessible and communal areas are nicely decorated. Lovely inner courtyards and nice bar areas. The room was a fairly good size. Good shower/toiletries/fluffy towels. The bed was comfortable. A good supply of coat hangers in the wardrobe, also good supply of coffee/tea/milk and complimentary spring water.

We didn't have dinner, but breakfast was a little utilitarian, served in the bar. Our 'full English' was very good, however and the staff were very friendly
