The Old Lodge, hotel in Stroud

Set 22 km from Kingsholm Stadium, The Old Lodge offers 4-star accommodation in Stroud and has a garden, a restaurant and a bar.

The room is very cosy and the environment in their restaurant was excellent. Majority of customers are well-mannered and respectful people which made the whole stay very welcoming and pleasant. Their workforce is very attentive, never understaffed and the food is delicious. I would highly recommend this place for a short stay. There is a golf course just outside the property and nearby villages are picturesque.

Every staff member I came into contact with was friendly, helpful and very well trained (even though many seemed to be temporary summer staff). The evening dinner (off the bar menu) was delicious and it was a bonus that the night of our stay it was a very hot evening and therefore my friend and I could sit outside and eat in the garden. The breakfast was also excellent. I had a single room which, whilst small, was well equipped and the en-suite bathroom was large. There was plenty of parking.

Dinner - well, the plums in my starter were unripe and the lemon posset was overset and was not a posset but a cardboard-like cheesecake texture. Very disappointing. Breakfast however was outstanding. The room was fantastic and had PROPER disabled access which believe me is very rare as many hotels which say they have it, do not have full facilities. The room was comfortable and beautifully decorated.

We booked this quite late on a Saturday evening and then arrived soon after, but this was not a problem at all. They managed to get us in to the restaurant and we just quickly changed and headed to the bar and then dinner. The food was fabulous, the staff are fabulous and the old buildings were fabulous! We got chatting with other guests in the bar which was really nice. Breakfast was wonderful... So we were really happy.
