Bed and the linen were lovely and comfortable. Room was clean and bright. There is a busy car park just across the road, we were there on a Saturday, but convenient. Good continental breakfast.

Staff were excellent, everyone we met was friendly and helpful. Dinner was very good, nice restaurant and good atmosphere. Breakfast was served far too late (9am) we both had meetings to get to so just grabbed a roll and coffee on the way out. The room was very disappointing, (Black Cap) very small and cramped, difficult to maneuver around the bed easily. Overlooking the service area. Bathroom even smaller and not very clean, the toilet still had some residue in the pan! Wall fitments loose or missing altogether and hand wash dispenser needed cleaning to get to work. Four places on the wall to hang clothes, but no hangers provided. The TV did not work at all and from where it was fitted, pillow height at the side of the bed, it would have been impossible to watch it anyway. Paintwork badly in need of redecoration, walls and doors/skirting very marked and scuffed. No carpet on stairs making it very noisy when people went in and out of their rooms.

Downs Hotel, hotel in Stanmer

Situated in Stanmer, 3.2 km from AMEX Stadium, Downs Hotel features accommodation with a restaurant, free private parking and a bar.

Just 13 minutes outside Brighton ((or less in the evening) we found this hotel to be perfectly located for visiting our family in Brighton. With its own car park. The room (6) was spacious and very well appointed. The heating was instantly adjustable. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Breakfasts were made to order and good. We didn't join in the Sunday night quiz which was on while we has a meal, but it sounded fun. There was no disturbance from the pub downstairs at all in our 5 nights.

We were in a “Hitch-hikers” room. Next to the main building with bedroom doors that opened over the lawns. Space a little tight in the bedroom but ok and bathroom well designed. Had to leave early for ferry so can’t comment on breakfast. Had dinner at Cricketers’. Good venue. Walkable. But on main road. Advise booking. Allow half hour to ferry. Potentially busy road with occasional hay cart! Friendly owners.
