The Fox and Goose, hotel in Lynmouth

This is the best accommodation excepting multi starred hotels I have ever experienced. The village of Parracombe is just off the A39 and has hardly changed from before the arrival of the motor car. , This pub, restaurant, hotel is like an oasis after my walk from Woolacombe. The hosts are delightful, bar staff accommodating, restaurant superb and my room very spacious with a very modern en-suite bathroom and everything scrupulously clean. All boxes ticked for me. *****

The Rockford Inn, hotel in Lynmouth

A secluded 17th-century pub, The Rockford Inn is situated at the bottom of a wooded gorge within the heart of Exmoor National Park overlooking the East Lyn River.

The Rockford Inn is a lovely cosy old pub with very comfortable rooms and it was so relaxing waking up to the sound of the river. We ate breakfast and dinner on a two day stay and all meals were excellent - home cooked using locally sourced produce. The location is superb - with walks direct from the pub alongside the river.

The food was excellent, we had dinner the evening before and had the best prawn dish we have had for a long long time. Breakfast was great too with plenty of choice of both continental and cooked, the Full English is highly recommended. Location was excellent in that it was out on the Moors and that feeling of being tucked up in a wonderful hostelry with good food and a pint of beer when the outside is wild and wonderful is very satisfying. Service from the staff was first class and you were made to feel welcome.

Fantastic food - particularly liked the Spanish Chicken and the locally sourced Battered Hake. View from our room was over the front of the hotel - the field opposite had the most wild rabbits I have ever seen in one place! The hotel is a very old coaching inn with old beams and plenty of character. Very dog friendly.
