A delightful cosy ‘proper’ village pub with a great community feel. The food was excellent and bedroom very comfortable. The evenings were buzzing with locals and visitors alike. The log fire is ancient and cosy. Lovely staff. The village is perfect - even has a community shop run by volunteers. Oh! And there is a lady that runs the Village Post Office from the pub two mornings a week. All in all a great community feel.

The Lydgate was a lovely room with interesting pictures and outlook and an en suite bathroom. The bed was very wide. The second pillow could have been softer/thinner and thel ventilation fan in the bathroom a little less disruptive of a night's sleep but these are minutiae. The evening meal was excellent. The breakfast (different team?) was somewhat tired and overcooked- we felt it was hanging around in the kitchen before being served.

Super friendly staff, great atmosphere and full of customers when we arrived which is always a good sign! And because we were arriving late, we rang ahead and were able to book dinner which they made for us when we arrived 👌🏻 The food was excellent! Lovely room, and free beer and water in room!! Top stay for a pub! Must reiterate how refreshing it was to be served by such thoughtful and enthusiastic staff!!
