The Barrel Inn, hotel in Castleton

Featuring a restaurant and a bar, The Barrel Inn is located in Eyam, 15 km from Chatsworth House and 19 km from Buxton Opera House.

The Room was excellent it was very clean but lacked a comfy chair. As for quiet it was in an annexe bit which at first looked great but as it was next door to the Bins and barrels was very noisy when barrels were being moved or delivered. We loved the location and the views were spectacular. The evening meal we had on the first night was really good. The service was excellent and the pub itself really comfortable.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice room with extremely comfy bed. Breakfast was really excellent. The food was all exceptional. We dined there twice and enjoyed 3 perfect breakfasts . The dinners were generous and good quality ... home cooked pies and the best sticky toffee pudding I've ever had. Everything was clean. Location perfect for enjoying the many features of Castleton. Staff all friendly, helpful and efficient.

All good, our room was inner styx. Room clean and bed comfy, we loved roof window shutters closable with the very long pole. Amazing power shower and nice hot radiator to dry our towels. The garden was very nice with furniture and cushions to enjoy the evening sun with wine fgrom village shop. We would return and highly recommend the George and ye old nags head for meals £15-20 each. ☺

My stay at the George exceeded expectations. The standout was the staff, they were all so friendly, lovely and helpful. Always took good care of us even when the pub was super busy. Pub gets fully booked for meals, but the staff will helpfully check if you need a dinner booking each day, which is really appreciated. Food at breakfast was great and there are quite a few choices. Also, the shower in our room had excellent water pressure!

The location is ideal: nestled in the heart of the Hope Valley beneath the atmospheric Peveril Castle, the inn is perfectly placed for walks to caverns, hikes up Mam Tor or buses further afield if the weather isn’t being cooperative. It provides front row views of The Garland Day procession too. The room was cosy, comfortable and provided three excellent nights’ sleep. The breakfast included was decent enough and the pub itself offers a good selection of hearty traditional fare and cask ales served by friendly staff.

Location was great, right in the middle of Castleton which was really buzzing as it was a bank holiday weekend. Staff were really friendly and helpful despite it being so busy. Brilliant and generous breakfast included in the rate with lots of choice, the best eggs royale! Plus they serve it until 11 am and they’re open to the public for it so you don’t have to stay there to get it. We also ate dinner there on a couple of nights and that was lovely too.

Jayne and I loved our stay at the beautiful Four Seasons Guest House. The large rooms were very comfy and the views from the window were wonderful. It is stumbling distance from some lovely taverns and cafés, so there’s plenty of choice for everyone. We loved the castle, the many caverns and breathtaking walks in the surrounding area of Castleton. We look forward to visiting again soon.
