A perfect stop in the middle of nowhere driving through narrow English country lanes. The bar was cozy with friendly locals and the food (I had a burger with pepper corn sauce for dinner) and breakfast (full English with black pudding) was amazing. They saw I was wet from hiking Hadrians Wall and let me check in a little early to dry off, so that was really appreciated.

Good wholesome breakfast.

Fantastic traditional inn. Comfortable. Personable. Kind staff. Incredible breakfast; best we had during our 2 weeks in Europe. Dinner was also terrific. Will come again!
The location for the venue we were going to was very good. The food at dinner was really good and plenty of it. The whole place was clean, warm and well maintained.
Lovely warm welcome, staff could not have been more helpful - absolutely lovely.
Main area / bar so warm and welcoming.
This is a beautiful location and a wonderfully warm and characterful Inn, with incredible staff - perfect for non-business travellers
Idyllic looking Inn in a glorious quiet location. Our room had a view of fields and the river with a stone bridge crossing. Plenty of parking opposite in the pub car park.
The room was well presented with a very comfy bed. The bathroom was adequate, if small.
Nice atmospere in the bar, well used by locals. There was a separate games room with a pool/snooker table.
Having read previous reviews we had high expectations but our one-night stay didn’t fulfil them.
The Fox & Pheasant is located in a charming village within easy reach of Carlisle. For railway enthusiasts, Armathwaite is a stop on the Settle/Carlisle railway and the village is situated on the river Eden. We stayed on a Sunday and although the pub was very busy, it wasn't a problem getting a table for dinner. There was a varied menu at reasonable prices.
