Bezhoek Private Nature Reserve is a non-Big 5 reserve, located just 25km outside of Middelburg and eMalahleni (Witbank) and approximately 2 hours’ drive from Pretoria and Johannesburg. A piece of paradise - 4500ha of pristine nature is tucked away in the Olifants River valley, ready to be explored. Our intimate safari camp has 9 safari tents all equipped with 2 comfortable ¾ beds (can be converted into a King bed), luxurious linen, electricity, camp chairs and table, carpeted flooring, large windows with gauze netting and en-suite bathroom facilities (shower, basin, and toilet). Each tent has a bar fridge and a coffee station with a gas stove for the kettle and is stocked with coffee, tea, milk, sugar and rusks. The safari tents are located approximately 100-200m from the central guest facilities, where you can relax at the swimming pool, in the garden or the lounge and veranda. Your delicious meals are prepared by our in-house Chef and served at the central guest facilities dining area or our special boma. The irreplaceable bio-diversity status of the Reserve is attributed to over 100 grass species, cycad populations, red data flora, extensive river frontages, permanent wetlands and streams, riverine forestation, gorges, savannah plains, rocky outcrops, and majestic cliffs. The wildlife, which includes leopard, hyena, giraffe, eland, sable, oribi, blesbok and many other species, all roam freely. It is always special to spot the honey badgers and porcupines, notwithstanding over 302 bird species, including the African Finfoot, Southern Bald Ibis, Denham’s Bustard and Secretary birds. Self driving is not permitted on the Reserve, but guests are welcome to book a guided game drive or bush walk at the Camp; alternatively guest can explore the 100km+ of trails on foot or mountain bike (bring your own bike).
