In the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands in South Africa are the historical Mill Cottages. Mill Cottages comprise of three Country Cottages situated in a peaceful country setting overlooking the Lions and Impafana Rivers. The cottages, some of which date back to the early 1900's, vary in size and are all self catering. The gardens are a joy for birding enthusiasts. A swimming pool and jungle gym can keep the children occupied. Or plan a trip down the Lions River by booking with Lions River Rafting. The Caversham Mill Restaurant, independently run, over looks the Lions River waterfall and is the historical site of the original Mill. The restaurant is a first class, well-priced establishment. There are also other eateries and pubs along the Midlands Meander waiting to be explored and experienced.
Mill Cottages is a family run establishment situated in splendid gardens, with direct access to the river frontage for fly fishing. The Lions River runs in a semicircle around the property and the Impafana River joins it at right angles in the front of the property. Pathways lead along pretty walks to the waters edge, where guests can fish, swim, tube along the river, or simply sit and enjoy nature at its best. The current owners, Di and Terry Acres, live on the Mill Cottages property and have owned this magnificent space for the past 20 years.
Mill Cottages is situated in the heart of the Midlands Meander, in fact exactly where the Midlands Meander was founded in 1985 by the famous potter David Walters who was the then owner of the property. The Midlands Meander is a 50km arts and craft route offering a large variety of beautiful hand made goods. Shop for gorgeous turned wooden bowls and boards, exquisite beadwork, jewellery and embroidered ware, ceramic pots of every shape and size, glassware and stained glass goods, lavender oils and soaps, leatherware - the list is endless. Sports in the area include hiking, horse riding, swimming (the Midmar Mile is an annual event), tubing, golf, polo, mountain biking and trail running. The history of the area is fascinating, and includes historical sites and anecdotes of Voortrekker, Bushmen/San, Boer, British and more recent apartheid significance. Our direct neighbours are Ardmore Ceramics on our right. Visit their amazing gallery and watch their artists create masterpieces which are exported all over the world. And at Piggly Wiggly, just a few kilometres down the road, you can enjoy many other craft shops.
