You will love staying at Dora's Country Cottage which was originally built in 1910 and has been recently updated and remodeled. It has 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, kitchen, living room and sleeps 8 guests, and offers a combination of country charm and like being at home. This property has had four generations reside here. The Cottage is named after Dora Black, the great-grandmother of Elaine and Emilee Lott who own and operate the business. The Blacks were cattle and sheep ranchers and after the Depression Dora ran this property as a "boarding house" for the CCCs that were in the area working on government projects. Dora's Country Cottage property has the unique opportunity of being the residing place of Sunny and Rusty who are rescue steers found by Emilee. They live next door! You will love the comfortable and cozy feel once you step inside. The kitchen is fully equipped so you can prepare all of your meals. The kitchen also provides a dining area so you can sit around as family and friends and enjoy your meals. After your long day of adventures of traveling or hiking there is a nice large patio facing the east. Take your "boots off and kick back" and enjoy your glass of wine or cold drink. We have just finished remodeling the rest of the house which will now offer the living room and the upstairs. On the main level is the king bed/bath; the queen bed/bath; kitchen and living room; and upstairs will be two rooms with a queen bed/bath and a king bed/bath. This property can be rented four different ways so be sure and pick the right one for your needs; the whole house; king & bath; queen & bath; king & queen and 2 baths; AND if you pick on of the individual rooms you have the option of renting the kitchen & living room! This is a great property for those that will be staying just a night OR even better for those that have an extended stay to enjoy the beautiful area that we are surrounded by.

Emilee and myself, Elaine, are sisters and we own and operate Dora's Country Cottage. This house was originally built by our great grandparents. We are following our grandparents footsteps by being business owners. We also own Prairie Star Vacation Rental and Cowboy Country Inn. We love Escalante and sharing it with our many guests that come from around the world to explore the area. We are originally from Escalante and moved away for a few years but Escalante has always been home. We are both school teachers and Elaine is retired and Emilee is working at Escalante High School. Being back home is a dream come true. Moving back home has provided us the opportunity to live in a great small town and enjoy all that it has to offer. The people that live here are great people. Living the slow-paced, country-style living is amazing! Being a small town we are limited with grocery shopping so we suggest to stop at a bigger town if you need specific items. Dora's Country Cottage is a great place to have a one night stay OR better yet, is to have multiple nights stay! This property is centrally located so you can go in any direction in Escalante and spend many days exploring then returning to Dora's place to rest and relax!!!! We live across the street to the north of Dora's and so we can be there within minutes if you need us OR we can be reached by phone or text. PLEASE don't hesitate to contact us for any reason. Escalante sits in the middle of the Grand Stair-case Escalante National Monument. We are surrounded by vast amounts of "hidden treasures"!!! For those that are driving thru the area the scenery is wonderful just from the road; BUT for those that like to explore, you are in for a wonderful treat! The photography, hiking, fishing, biking, UTVing, etc is something that you will totally enjoy and you will come back year after year to explore more and more!!! We will share with you some of the possibilities for you to look into getting info so you can see some of the "treasures" in Escalante. Calf Creek Falls, it is about 20 minutes driving east. The hike is 6 miles round trip and is very beautiful! Petrified State Park, is about one mile driving west. They have a couple hikes to see the petrified wood laying on the ground. Anasazi State Park is 30 miles east in Boulder. Great museum to see the Native American culture that use to be here. IF you have an "off road" vehicle then you can explore the dirt roads that surround our area and see Devils Rock Garden, Zebra, Posey Lake, Hell's Backbone bridge, Spooky and Peek-a-boo slot canyon, and many more places. There are many hikes that may require some extra effort and possible maps to get where you want to go. We highly suggest to make sure that you know this and always have PLENTY of water AND be sure and tell someone where you are going. If you plan on staying with us, and go out different places every day we ask that you leave us a note on your bed as to where you will be exploring that day! After your day exploring we do have restaurants in the area for you to enjoy a nice meal. Some are take out and others are to go inside and sit down. A few of our places serve alcohol. If you prefer to prepare your own meal we also have a couple grocery stores to get items for you to cook. We have a pharmacy and clinic on the east side of town if by chance you need any medical attention or forgot your medication.
