Welcome to Marija Jera apartments. In the ancient part of the hilltop town of Štanjel, in a historical environment, we offer you accommodation in rooms and apartments in two terraced houses - numbers 6b and 6c. The total capacity is up to a maximum of 17 persons. There is also a common room (Salon), for a group not larger than 20 people, for breakfasts and gatherings. In the halls you can keep bikes. There are also 4 bikes available for renting – these are free of charge for guests who are staying in our apartments or rooms. Apartments and rooms Marija Jera are located in the historical part of Štanjel inside the castle walls. The castle, church of St. Daniel and the unique arrangement of this Karst settlement (with terraced houses and narrow streets, and the nearby Ferrari garden with its paths and wide-ranging views) lend an added dimension to your stay. The house where the apartments are located has a rich history: in the 20th century it was reconstructed according to the plans of architect Max Fabiani and it was a part of Villa Ferrari.

We are Marija and Jožef Švagelj we were both teachers and now we are retired and are pleased with our decision to work with the tourists. My daughter, Ana, is a director of the firm Nassa desella. The grandchildren help us when it it is necessary. Me, Marija, was an English teacher and I have always been interested in working with the tourists, and now my wish has been fulfilled. My husband was a teacher of art and now he takes care for bees. In the unspoiled nature of Karst we have bees, so we are interesting for api tourism, too. We can also organise a visit to a wine cellar, degustation of wine and karst proscutio. We have a long tradition in tourist guiding round Štanjel and its surroundings. We enjoy talking to our guests and giving them advice on how to explore the nearby surroundings.

Štanjel is a charming village. Famous people associated with Štanjel: •Max Fabiani, the architect of the Austro Hungarian monarchy. His works in Štanjel are Ferrari's garden, Villa Ferrari •Bishop Anton Mahnič, a candidate for the blessed •Josip Abram, a priest and translator of the works of Ukrainian poet Taras Ševčenko •Wanda Newby, the author of the book Peace and War and the wife of travel writer Eric Newby •Renato Ferrari, the author of the book The Fabiani's Mulberry Tree (Il Gelso dei Fabiani) Štanjel can be the starting point for numerous walking and cycling paths and experiencing karst architecture, landscape, gastronomy, vegetation . . . The walking Fabiani’s path between Štanjel and Kobdilj is marked. The nearest beach is at Sistiana (in Italy) and takes 25 minutes to reach by car. Towns Gorizia, Postojna, Ljubljana, Piran, Trieste, Venice, Udine are easily accessible. Trips to the Soča valley, Vipava vŠtanjel is situated on the edge of the Karst plateau. Cca. 20 minutes away from Štanjalley, Cerknica lake, Postojna and Škocian caves, Lipica can be a part of your holiday.
