Our home is located on the beautiful and peaceful Banks Peninsula, just over an hour from Christchurch and the Airport, making it an ideal first stop after a long haul flight or, last stop before leaving the South Island. We are in a remote and scenic location overlooking the Bay at Port Levy. Our modern house offers you superb views from every room, or, you can sit and relax in our hot tub overlooking the bay, or, go walking, fishing, biking or tramping to discover what we have to offer.
Our room rate includes a fantastic Breakfast, but we can also provide an evening meal, or a 3-course dinner, dining alfresco from our terrace overlooking the bay (there are no kitchen facilities offered for guests to prepare or cook their own meals). Ensure you have your cameras ready for the fantastic views when driving from Christchurch, over Dyers Pass, to Governors Bay and onward to Diamond Harbour and over the Saddle to Port Levy. Our home is ideally located for exploring the Banks Peninsula and of course the French settlement of Akaroa, here, you can swim with Dolphins, or visit the numerous Eastern Bays. The vistas are outstanding. Let us help you unwind and show you the beautiful area we live in, so many tourists arrive in Christchurch and miss what we have to offer
Verity is a Kiwi, born in Christchurch, New Zealand, I am a Yorkshire lad, born near Haworth, Yorkshire, England, we built our home in Port Levy after running two busy restaurants in England. We now relax and enjoy the peace and tranquility Port Levy and the Banks Peninsula has to offer, but, we also like meeting people and sharing some of the fantastic dishes we prepared in our restaurants back in England, that is why we offer an evening meal served in our beautiful surroundings. To keep us busy, we grow the majority of our own fruit and vegetables, have our own sheep and hens and produce 'Pine Nuts' from our own plantation. Verity is also an artist and potter as you will see throughout our home. Depending on the time of year you may also see Orcas, Pilot Whales, or, Hector Dolphins all of which have been sited from our home, so come and and enjoy your first, or last days on the South Island with us, we would love to have you. If you don't have any transport, will will pick you up from wherever and drop you'wherever', not for free of course, but could probably be exchanged for a bottle of wine, or two. Look forward to seeing and listening to your adventures.
The Banks Peninsula is made up of two extinct volcanoes, spreading it arms into the South Pacific and forming numerous beautiful bays, one of which is the bay at Port Levy. With just one neighbour our home is quite remote located on the western side of the Bay. What are our attractions? Well, Port Levy has been the film location for Heavenly Creatures, starring Kate Winslet, the first film ever made by Peter Jackson, and, more recently 'Z' for Zachari, starring Chris Pine and Margo Robbie . Peace, tranquility, views, stars, ocean, wild life and dark, dark nights with your head looking skywards trying to spot shooting stars, or, satellites. During the day, tour the Eastern Bays, the road and views are amazing. Of course no stay on the Banks Peninsula should miss the beautiful Akaroa, one of the main stops for cruise ships visiting the South Island, When in Akaroa, hire a kayak, or, go swimming with Dolphins, and, do not miss a visit to the Giants Garden, French Farm Vineyard, Lavender, or, Olive Farms. So much to do, so little time, as you have the rest of the South Island, but, visit us, you won't be disappointed! Happy travelling!!
