Kauri Villas has been developed from the original farmhouse, dating back to 1870, which enjoys breathtaking views overlooking the sea and surrounding countryside. There are twelve acres to explore, including a loop track through beautiful native bush, past waterfalls, leading down to the Kohinui stream. We even have glowworms at night, and we will do guided night walks on request. Kauri Villas provides a tranquil and relaxed setting for your stay, with plenty of accommodation choices from our three bed & breakfast suites, or our two self contained cottages. Delicious full cooked breakfasts are available each morning, with fruit, produce and eggs either grown at Kauri Villas or sourced locally where possible. We have free range hens and sheep, as well as a friendly cat. Bird watchers will get a chance to spot some rare birds including Kaka, not normally seen on the mainland, along with many other native and endemic species.
We feel very blessed to own this amazing property, and are keen to share it with you. We have been married 27 years, with two wonderful adult children. Having spent most of our lives in Devonport, Auckland, we have enjoyed the change of lifestyle, moving up to this beautiful part of Northland. Mike is a keen hockey player and loves kayak fishing. Andrea loves anything creative especially with a sewing machine.
The Whangarei Heads 6000 hectare peninsula is a water and nature lover’s paradise and the place to stay on your Northland holiday or weekend break. The peninsula is ringed with numerous sheltered harbour bays and coves on one side, and expansive ocean beaches on the other. The waters of Parua Bay, McLeod’s, Taurkura, Reotahi and Urquhart’s Bays provide numerous family friendly swimming and picnicking spots. On its pacific coastal side the magnificent 5km long Ocean Beach and to the North the popular Taiharuru and Pataua estuaries. Between these coastal fringes lie towering volcanic peaks, “the backbone” of Whangarei Heads with Mt Manaia and Mt Lion rising steeply from the sea to over 400 metres. These mountains are surrounded by rich native bush and are abundant with wildlife including noted populations of North Island Brown kiwi. The area contains some of the North Islands most noted walking tracks including Mt Manaia, Bream Head, Smugglers Cove, and Mt Aubrey. Clear waters and two marine reserves make the area a water lovers playground for fishing, scuba diving, snorkelling and kayaking.
