Here at Stay Zero Footprint we want to encourage tourism that doesn't contribute to the degradation of our environment, and instead begins to revitalise eco-systems and reduce the carbon footprint often associated with travel. Our team is made up of Marianne, who is passionate about the environment and also entrepreneurship, which lead to the creation of Stay Zero Footprint. Her partner, Richard is the man behind the construction and environmental systems of our boats, ensuring that the solar panels, bio-waste tanks and everything else are maintained and functioning. We also have a couple of employees on site who ensure that the rooms are cleaned and prepared, and that you have everything you need for your adventure on a house boat. The boats are also located on the canal and do experience some rocking during your stay, if you suffer from motion sickness please consider this before booking as it may not be enjoyable for you to stay.

Come and experience our off-grid accommodation located within the Industrial neighborhood of Schepenbuurt in Utrecht. With this completely self-sufficient houseboat we want to encourage sustainable tourism that reduces the footprint we leave in our environment. Our unique accommodation produces its own solar energy, has timed central heating, purified drinking water and a bio-tank that filters all grey water and waste on site. Please note that due to our off-grid nature, our apartments tailor to the more adventurous travellers who are happy to swap the excessive comforts of tourism for a more simple, nature inclusive experience. Each apartment has a loft bed with two single mattresses, separate duvets and pillows. Hop 1 has a separate bedroom. The apartment has a private bathroom and a lounge/dining area complete with canal views and a hammock so you can make the most of your adventure. Cooking is not permitted in the rooms. We have equipped each room with its own fridge and Nespresso machine so that guest can still enjoy the small luxury of a freshly brewed coffee, tea or hot chocolate during their stay. There are a couple of bars and cafes just across the water where you can enjoy great food, music and even visit a micro-brewery during the weekends. The closest supermarket is a 900m walk or cycle from the Stay Zero Footprint boats. For basics such as milk, sandwiches and other treats, there is an Esso Gas Station located at the Eastern dock staircase which can be useful for on-the-go snacks. Cycling is the most time efficient way to get to the city which takes 10-15 minutes and you can choose between the city route or along the canal (slightly longer but much more scenic). If you need, you can also rent bikes from us during your stay. Should you prefer public transport, we are located 600m from Zuilen Train Station, just one stop away from Utrecht Centraal. There is also a bus stop located just in front of and across the road from the Esso gas station.

The boats are located in Industriehaven, surrounded by a mixture of industrial buildings, studios for autonomous artists, exhibition areas and bars . Across the canal you have Werkspoorkathedraal, an event centre that hosts many food and beverage festivals and community events. You can also visit De Nijverheid with their cultural spaces, art cafe and bar, micro-brewery and more. An Esso Gas Station is also located right by the Eastern dock staircase. The Stay Zero Footprint boats are also located right next to the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal, which boasts a more nature-inclusive experience with green spaces and a bike path. You can exit the docks via the western staircase and follow the canal to explore more cafes, bars and architecture by bike.
