It was just a wonderful stay- the building style, colonial style furniture, exquisite decor, staff that quickly learns what guests like and dislike and treats guests professionally and cordially. Hotel management is present, accessible, and friendly. Interesting stories about the history of the place and how it coped with the recent COVID crisis. The Garden and the pool area are an enclave in a busy Vientiane. The food was good and nicely presented.

The most magical place. Can't won't fault it. Perfection. Looking to see if I could come and have a long term rental.....beautiful people. Totally safe and I'm 70.....{ Had two raw silk Lao skirts made at Maly Indigo..which I wore all the time. Masses of comments about them. As hand woven..Appreciated. That I had bought hand made. Did a cookery course. Totally enjoyed. But for me this trip was to meet my Laos English grandson...... wonderful just wondered

Vientiane was enjoyable although the city streets are not very clean. We travelled around using Loca and they were very relaible. Our visit to the Victory Monument was a highlight for me, check that you go there when the musical fountains are on, they are stunning when viewed from the top of the Monument. The Supa is also a must see. We ate in the local Thai restaurants and the food was always great! The night market is a place for good buys and if you have children there is a lovely funfair at night.

When reached Lao they required a Visa.
When reached Lao they required a Visa. I was surprised as Vietnam did not ask for one. Then they charged 1800Baht for not having a photo.
13 hours to get there by the new train. No warning of photo or visa required by the Train authority.
I was ripped of often as I was told they accepted Baht they only gave change in Kip and Often they short changed me.
I think they should stop this train until they stop asking for Visa and if they insist on a photo they should have a photo machine taking Baht.
Horrible place and Nice streets but not French colonial at all as I had been told.
Do Not Go there it is the worse place I have have ever been.

Great to gain insights on real life in Lao, as a supplement to tourist-centred Luang Prabang.
Vientiane doesn't seem to have a centre, but Nam Phu Park is a key focus, and good to walk from there to the Presidential Palace (unfortunately under reconstruction), the Cathedral (ditto), Patuxai (not at all like Arc de Triomphe, truly Laotian), tourist info (great pictures, fab free map) and lots of Wats and restaurants (Doi Ka Noi and Soukvimarm Cuisine Lao being must-eat-ats).
Too far to walk, but well worth a tuktuk ride to Kaysone Phomvihan National Museum and his former home (round the corner on the ex-CIA plot where the Lao parliament sits today). Amazing insights on forging national Identity, culture and politics. Beware that lunchtime closing is strictly enforced at 12, and that there are no local restaurants, but Cafe 25 (between the two museums) is worth visiting too - an expensive but air-conditioned oasis.
Lao people welcoming and helpful throughout.

Fairly compact city, quite easy to walk around with good quality roads and sensible drivers. Having to use American dollars makes it quite expensive for Australians but manageable with caution. Tours are expensive. We found a very historic restaurant serving really great Lao food only a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel and on the same street. We ate there several times and were never disappointed. All the people we dealt with were quite friendly.

A surprisingly calm city with little traffic noise and polite and respectful drivers - no dodging and weaving through traffic, no horns blaring so we had a really relaxing, calm experience in Vientiane. There is lots to do and see.

Great location at a price that's good for Vientiane. Staff are lovely and helpful. Sustainable toiletries. Unlimited, filtered and chilled water available all day. Free bananas available all day! TV had good reception and a couple of English language channels, which is unusual in Laos at this price point. I'd have given a 9 rating except that the room was very small.
Great hotel in a great location. Not even a 5 minute walk to the night markets and everything is nearby. There is also a great massage place on the same street. The staff were so kind and helpful. I will stay here every time I’m in Vientiane. Thankyou for having us. 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Like a 5 star hotel, the bed was so lovely and comfortable, the staff very very friendly and helpful the hotel was excellent and clean. I will go back again and I really recommend to anyone because I've not had any better at the price I had. Excellent hotel I give 10 out of 10
My husband booked this hotel for my birthday at the end of our tour through Laos. We had a suite with a separate living area, huge bedroom, great bathroom (best shower we had in Laos) and a beautiful view. Very close to markets, restaurants and a sensational rooftop bar.
The beds were so comfy, after 3 weeks of travelling around Laos and using Vientiane as my last stop, it's nice to have a really comfortable bed in Lao Poet Hotel. The room is beautiful too!
